Work began at 15.18 by separating the flaps from the wing halves, first pictures to follow soon.

Re: Lancfan's FoF Red Tail Mustang
To secure the wing section when the flaps were removed I applied some car filler inside the wing and taped the wing halves together.
With the filler dry I then began to cut away the flap halves, here is one wing separated from it's flap and the upper panel glued in place.
Both wings are now de-flapped, pre-painting and then cockpit assembly can now commence.

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Nice one and it's good to see you getting those flaps down for an authentic appearance even in the white hot crucible of a blitz

Great start nice to see you aren’t going for an OOB.
That’s a great idea with the car filler, it’s very versatile, I once new a chap that actually used it on a car

Back in the day as a novice motorist driving the rust buckets we all had to buy back then I slapped tins of the stuff on my early motor cars, now I put it to better use.

Things have slowed down a little as I pre-paint and assemble the cockpit- more pictures shortly.

I once had a Morris Marina that could have been sponsored by Plastic Padding car filer. I reckon there was so little metal left in the body, even the speed cameras radar wouldn’t have detected it, not that that mattered as it couldn’t have con fast enough to break the speed limit.

Car filler and brown paper parcel tape were the key tools of the motor trade back then, production standards were rock bottom and rust was rife.

Re: Lancfan's FoF Red Tail Mustang
When the cockpit was conplete the fuselage halves could be joined together, the separate tail did slow things down as this had to dry before the tail was glued to the main part of the fuselage.
When all sections were dry the joints could be smoothed down and the wing attached to the fuselage, there is now another delay as this joint dries.
