Gee, I wonder what on earth Daz is going to build for this Blitz??

Yes, if you were watching TV over the Christmas holidays, you might have seen the film adaptation of David Walliams' book on BBC1:

The film featured a full-scale Spitfire replica, and some pretty decent CGI flying shots of the aircraft.

This is the full-scale aircraft, seen here during filming:

I've yet to decide on the kit, and the date (but, in all likelihood, it'll be sometime this week), but I'm looking at either:

1) the Airfix old-tool Spitfire Ia
2) the Airfix new-tool Spitfire Ia
3) the Frog Spitfire Ia/Va

So yeah, another one for the movie models collection!

Nice idea!
I'd go for the old tool Airfix personally; less parts than the new tool but better than the Frog imho

That was my thinking, too.

I might save the Frog Spit for something a little.... different! ;-)

Have you built a spitfire before, do you need any advice on such a difficult subject :-D

Your choice of which kit to build is a tough one in a bliz, whilst the old Airfix kit has a low part count the part fit is not as good as the new more detailed kit.

If it was me I would go for the new kit, the extra detail in the cockpit can be ignored as nothing can be seen once the canopy is on especially if you including the boy and his grandad.

If you are going to do the book cover version a bit of cockpit conversion will be required by the look of things! As you've obviously never built a Spitfire before you might find the new tool kit a bit fiddly and the old tool might be an easier build, there's more wriggle room in the fit of the parts you know. If you need to know anything else about building Spitfires then please do hesitate to ask. :ha: :ha:

I'm not gonna lie, I did think about looking for a model of a Piel Emeraude, since that is obviously what the artist things a Spit looks like! :ha:

That aircraft was the centerfold (well, Aircraft Described) in the March 1965 Aeromodeller.
I can send you a scan of the article/drawings if it would help.

I'll stick with a Spitfire - much easier! ;-)

I'm gonna have to postpone this blitz until a bit later - been laid up with the flu, and this has well and truly screwed my holiday plans for the week!
