Is Light Mud a Humbrol paint color? Or your own mix? I'm not familiar with it.

It took a little while to rearrange the lathe but once set-up, dressing the treads on the road wheel was very quick.

I've seen Paul Budzik do this on youtube (looks, and Paul is in the process of moving all the videos to a new channel), I think we'd all love a lathe. I think a Bridgeport is probably out of the question but maybe one day....

James, I have a lathe because, many years ago I was into making model railway locos etc and I used to make my own compensated chassis etc etc etc.

Oh dear, it looks as though I have bitten-off more than I can chew! Perhaps I should have gone for the 29(F) Sqn Hurricane night fighter!
Construction of the undercarriages showed that extra painting was necessary and, together with other components making up the suspension units, I’ve ended-up having to complete lots of fine brush painting.

Which is exactly why I am not allowed to have one, or a mill, or a ....

That's the most impressive way of removing flash I have ever seen. I'm in awe........

Impressive effort to use the lathe during a blitz!

Iggie, it took about 10 mins to set-up the lathe. A 1.4 mm drill in the 3jaw chuck, a small nut for spacing and a live centre in the tail stock to press the wheel against the nut which, in turn, was pressed against the chuck. Once done, i slipped each whell onto the stub of drill, tightened the live centre against it and used a small file to remove the mould line. It took but moments to complete the 12.
Unfortunatelt, although I had pre-painted lots of the undercarriage parts, when I put the first together it was obvious that more required painting. I then got into ‘modellers OCD’ and started refining the track skids etc - I ran out of time!
The model will be completed in my ‘normal’ build area when I am next able to get some modelling done.

That’s the problem when you are a perfectionist like yourself blitz time constraints can really put the pressure on.

I look forward to following your build on the other thread as it looks like your making a little gem.

Well this was a really fantastic effort anyway. I'll watch the finish on your workbench thread.

Shame you didn't finish but that was a really great effort, Tony. I've done blitzes in the past and I normally build at a glacial rate. One of the most difficult parts I found was putting aside my usual fussiness for seams and added detail blah-di-blah. I succeeded with an Airfix old tool Red Arrows Gnat that I basically chucked together in a way that I haven't since modelling as a kid in the 1970's (although I did manage not to fog the canopy!) - it's even gear up on a stand with a pilot figure on board

My problem is that any model I build is for addition to my display cabinet so when the modelling OCD kicks in my construction rate slows. Mind you, I found a spare hour this morning and put the 6 suspension/road wheel units together and that was not for the faint hearted!
