Miguelito's Tamiya Pak-40 ** FINISHED **

Post by mjatx »

Looking through the stash, and I think I've found the fodder for my second Blitzbau attempt.

It's an older kit, but it's still a Tamiya, which should mean a relatively decent fit. I know the split gun barrel will give me some problems right off the bat and then there are a number of small pieces around the breach. Should be a good challenge. I'm planning on just painting this one Dark Yellow, but eventually I'd like to add some figures and make a small vignette around it. However, at this time, I'm just going to build and paint the gun.

This will probably be done the "wimpy" way with 2 separate 12 hour periods.

Since I'm in the Central U.S., I may try starting this one very early one morning to give our friends closer to GMT more opportunity to watch along.

Looks a nice choice, and as you say being Tamiya it should go together well
Best wishes

Agreed. Great Blitz fodder

Great choice, Mig, that is a great old Tamiya classic and builds up into a decent enough looking model of the gun.

Thanks, folks.

Alright, I've got a start time/date set, but this one will probably be done in two parts.

It's a little early, but I'm officially on the clock and the first 2 pieces have been cut from the sprue.

Over an hour into this one, and not much progress to report. The barrel was bent, actually more like a twist than a bend. Between straightening that out and working on the very prominent seam along the barrel, I haven't made it too far into the actual build.

Image

I primed the barrel to see how the seam looks now. It's pretty close to done and I think once I get past that, the rest should go quickly...at least that's what I'm hoping. Mrs. Miguelito has the flu, so she woke up for a few minutes, but I made her a tea and sent her back to bed. The cats have been fed, and the kids are still asleep, so I should be able to work undisturbed for a little while longer this morning. Regardless, this is going to be a 2-part Blitz.

Let's keep the two-tone music going.

That’s keen starting that early in the morning.

Good work on the barrel.

This one isn't going as quickly as expected, but I've managed to get the gun built. I skipped the gun shield for now. The firing mechanism and breach was pretty complicated, but I think I have it together correctly. Lots of small bits with some significant flash. Here's how it currently looks.

And here's a better picture where you can actually see it.

The kids tell me they want to see Black Panther, so life is starting to get in the way. We'll be heading out to an early show in about an hour. Going to try and get the shield together first, so I've going to work under a little pressure.

The Black Panther reviews are good, that would be a tough decision film or Blitz I’m glad it’s you making that decision not me :-D

I got the gun shield built, and will be stopping here to eat breakfast, do a well-check on the sick wife, and go to the movies with the kids.

I'll be back later this afternoon to finish building it, and hopefully get it primed.

Here's how it stands at the moment.

I forgot that we planned on seeing it today. Hope it lives up to the reviews. The trailer sure looks good.
