ChrisM fights with old Esci German Assault Bridge FINISHED

Post by chrism »

As a Blitz Virgin I have identified what I hope will be a willing and co-operative subject for my first ever foray in this field

Image

Plus points
It doesn't have too many parts, they are in almost the right colour plastic to start with, so that should help with painting,
As for subject of painting, the kit is principally the one colour (dark grey), with just the tracks and detail on guns and tools etc needing some other colours and there are not a lot of decals either.

Negatives
got to deal with some tracks and wheels, and the tracks seem to be quite hard and likely to put up a fight
The decals might be problematic and on initial inspection they don't inspire me with confidence, but I know I have leftovers from numerous other small scale German kits in past, so can find something if necessary to add if we get to that stage.

Build time - will be in a few days time, once I can schedule two suitable daytime slots

Cool. I’ve done several ESCI pieces and surprised as to the construction. Quite positive that is. I recommend two part epoxy glue to connect the track ends.

Looking forward to this one.

As to decals, remember it's a ground vehicle and mud is readily available to hide things.

I agree this is an interesting choice of subject, Chris (I do like a good half-track!) and hopefully the kit will cooperate!

I plan to hopefully make a start sometime on Saturday once

Start time is dependent on a combination of both my state of being early in the morning, and on what time I get the place to myself ..

As for music - I would have had a bit of Radio2 on in the background, but as it is Graham Norton on now at just after 10 am - it has been turned off. I shall play along just with song title and quips to lyrics instead ... so for now will enjoy "the sound of silence"

An hour in ....

need to go back and add some paint to dials on dashboard and splash some grey add a bit of grey paint to some of these bits and look and see what can be painted on sprue to help speed things up later.

The tracks are already giving me signs of trouble

nothing given up to carpet yet.

Nice start. An armour builder in my club always says if you make a mistake, put a tarp or stowage on it.

Why is it that when you want to get on with something, everyone and their dog rings the front door ... and the phone keeps ringing. Will be back shortly to add some text ... to these photos
