OT has a Valentines date with a Texan - *** Finished ***

Post by Old_Tonto »

As SWMBO is going out with another fella tonight, I thought I would turn to my second love and bodge some plastic. For my victim I have chosen this Hobbyboss kit:

Image

The instructions look straight forward enough.

Image

Whilst the parts count is very low.

Image

Having never built this kit before I can't swear to either it's accuracy or fit but I guess I will find out.
This will probably have to be a wimps 2x12 hour sessions as I have things planned for tomorrow, sorry about that.
I am planning to add some weapons to the kit and finish up with a South African example as used in the early bush war around 1975.

Hope you can join me.

I've heard that Valentine's dates are better with someone else's wife! Anyway, what better consolation than some excellent plastic such as this, OT? Looks very blitzable to me.

OK here we go kicking off just about on time. My belly is full with home made Broccoli & Stilton soup so it's probably a good thing I'm alone tonight.

Parts and clock.

Image

Here are a few extras that I plan to install under the wing:

Image

IIRC they were leftovers from when I did the unarmed trainer version of the Airfix kit.
Sadly this is the only colour image of a Harvard on operations in Angola.

Image

Very inconsiderate of the South Africans not to document their illegal war activities!

Looks like I start with the pit which should be british interior green. Better get on.
I'll try to update at least hourly until I knock off for tonight.

A bit of light listening to start with.

I've built a few of those HB Texans, in various movie disguises. Not a bad kit, either.

Have fun!

Thanks Daz, it does look like it should fall together. (I've said it now....)

First hour gone and I have the innards fitted.
There are no instrument panels or details of any kind in there but as this is a blitz I shall ignore that.
The seats are painted just awaiting some seat belts.

Image

The canopy has been dipped in Klear but it looks very thick so no need to worry about the lack of detail. 8-)
Most of the next hour will be spent masking that thing.

I have added the gun pods to the wings. They needed a little filler but should look ok once cleaned up.

Image

I'll add the rocket pods too before painting. Also installed is the front fuselage underside and various lumps and bumps.
One thing I will have to scratch is the blade antenne as none of the kit options are anything like that.

More to follow.

Thanks guys, this is going rather well.

Image

She is up on her U\C and as you can see the wings are attached.
That bit was a little tricky as there are several parts (fuselage, cockpit tub & wings) that need to align but with a bit of jiggling all went together.

So I celebrated by breaking into the blitz snacks.

Image

The only problem so far is that the Klear is taking a long time to dry.
I think its because it is a bit chilly in the Teepee tonight.

More classic tunes should keep the tempo going.

Back soon.

Thanks chaps and apologies for the lack of updates. SWMBO has returned form her night out so I was forced to sit down and talk to her. Very inconsiderate.

This is where I am up to.

Image

You can see that I have attached the rocket pods and made the blade antenne behind the cockpit.

The canopy can now be handled so I'll get cracking masking it as best I can.

I'll also work on the engine & cowling. Once that and the canopy are attached I aim to get a coat of primer on.
With that done I will call it a night for this half of the Blitz. Just leaving the painting for tomorrow night at about 7pm again.

Some more tunes before bedtime me thinks.

Must be time for a sausage roll. ;-)
