Been working on house projects or rather garden ones as I put up my 10'x8' garden shed over the weekend. Tonight I've made the effort to get the canopy on. I rather over finessed this trying to get the perfect fit and seem to can come away with it sat a fraction low that has required rubbing down of the of hump to match. Oh um. Will mask and get a some primer on it shortly.

Wasn't happy leaving where it was, as my wife headed to bed early I decided to return to the bench and mask up with Bare Metal Foil. I only have Chrome as that's what I it for on cars, here it's a bit too reflective and combined with glasses and artificial lights it was a bit of guess work as to where to cut. I will touch up with some PVA before the primer. With the foil protecting the clear parts I as able to tidy up the join round the canopy.

Looks a smooth fit. Is it easier to remove foil masking than tape?

Not easier than tape as it is designed to stay put but it will come off with a toothpick . Last time I tried it I had Keared the canopy which I think made it harder to remove. The point is it's so thin you can better see the framing which is a boon as this scale.

Got some primer on and got to try out AK Grey Primer. I've been using Alclad Grey primer for a while now as an airbrush-able lacquer primer where Halfords rattle can is not appropriate, bu teven when it goes on smooth it still needs rubbing down to get a good finish which is a pain when you have raised detail an tight corners. The AK has worked great, a smooth matt finish, my only grip is that it is quite think so you need two or three passes if you want to even out the colour of fillers and MB plastic!

I finally managed to get the lid of my Gunze White so a could lay some down before applying Xtracrylic Trainer Yellow. You need to build up the yellow slowly until you get the slight orange tinge. otherwise it will be too pale. It would be better to have put the yellow over the silver but the tail band is so close to the tail it would be very tricky to get the masking straight. This way I can simply cut tape of the correct width and apply. Also it's how Paul Bradley did the same aircraft in his Datafile book.

Looks good. Your house painting skills obviously transfer to your modelling. Or vice versa.

Got an unexpected 45mins this evening. Just time to mask the stripes and give it a coat of High Speed Silver. The stripes are a scale 2' wide and I cut tap to size. It took longer than planned to get them in position over the wings as I couldn't get them parallel to the centre line. The plan views in the instructions are unfortunately not to scale. I decided to try Xtracolor's HSS, I had read it was a bit to shiny but wanted something with a bit of grain rather than a NMF you'd get from say Alclad, I think a clear coat for detail and a satin finish should knock the sparkle back to something more appropriate.

I'm resisting the urge to remove the tape just in case it needs another coat when seen in daylight.

The all over silver really shows the gorgeous shape of the Hunter - even the two seater.

David
PS. I believe the yellow does not extend over the flaps. Do you know for sure?
