Yes, finally some semblance of a Hunter!

Some more filler required!
The wheel wells are too shallow for much detail to be added. I have done enough work on the rest of this project!

Cheers,

That is looking awesome. A real labour of love. Nice one.

All the best.

Considering it's origins, that is looking very promising indeed!
Best wishes

BTW, David, thanks for being a pioneer on this one. I had considered the same approach after reading Paul B's suggestion in his MDF book but I think I'll try the 'extend the Afx rear fuselage and shorten the front fuselage' approach someday instead. Of course, if I had any sense I'd just ditch all my old Hunter kits and stock up on the Revell one when it reissues any day now.

I must admit it turned out to be a challenge, and one that I would not recommend. But I will be pleased to have conquered it! I have built the fine Revell kit, and I have 3 more in the stash, plus 4 FROG (including one Mk.1), and 2 more Airfix Mk.9. And that's just 1/72. Do I need more Revell kits? Maybe not. I also have another Academy 1/48 kit with some corrections, a Lindberg 1/48 kit just for fun (with spare Academy wing tanks and Sabrinas), and the Revell 1/32 kit! I reckon I will be tempted by the new Airfix 1/48 offering, and I hope for T.7 spin-offs in 1/72 or 1/48.

Let's hope I live long enough to have this much fun!

Thanks, Tim.
The Hunter is now primed and ready for paint. So, what shade of red to use? Is my Humbrol gloss red too red?

Image

That doesn't look too bad, does it? The Airfix Sabrinas were used. (Hmmm...from this angle I see a slight bump in the spine. Out comes the file!)
But the wing tanks are also painted red so I have first turned my attention to those.

Image

The kit 100 gal tanks are far too small; spare Revell tanks to the rescue, to be mounted on modified kit pylons. I can't believe I had no spare Hunter inboard pylons among dozens of spare pylons accumulated over the years!

Thanks for looking,

David

The primer hides it hideous lineage and it's looking like the real deal.

The red bits are painted and masked. Final light aircraft gray coat next.

More red on the canopy framing.
