This is a themed GB for anything powered by the Rolls Royce Merlin, or a variant/derivative of same -- air, land, sea -- any kit, any scale, any variant, any markings.

This GB started from a thread here. There are a couple comprehensive lists of eligible equipment in this thread.

The GB runs from March 3rd to April 15th; your GBL is Chuck Finley who will fill in any other info.

Whoops I meant Centurion or Cromwell (the Chieftain had the problematic Layland multi-fuel engine)

Since the Rolls Royce Meteor was a Merlin adapted for tank use, Both are certainly allowed.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

I fancy joining if nobody objects. I have various Spitfires, an Airfix Cromwell, Defiant, and a Battle - I'm leaning towards the Battle which I have the resin nose for.

Cheers

Well, of course, I'm in for this one.

I've got several types that fit the bill:

Spitfire (of course!)
Buchon (naturally!)
Hurricane (yep!)
Mustang (yes, I have one or two stashed away!)

From what I can find on the internet, the last aircraft delivered to the UK armed forces with a Merlin engine was a Boulton Paul Sea Balliol WP333 in December 1954 although the RAF took delivery of one with a later serial, XF931, in June earlier that year.

So I attempt one of these two airframes using the old Pegasus kit unless somebody can point me to a later-delivered UK forces Merlin-powered aircraft.

You know Special Hobby has released both the Balliol T.2 and Sea Balliol T.21. They are later releases and quite nice kits. I have the Sea Balliol in the stash and Hannants has both in stock:

I love the idea of seeing more non-Spitfires in a Merlin build. Don't get me wrong, I have fifteen completed examples sitting on my shelf and I find myself wanting to do something different.

Go for it! I might even drag myself to build the Eduard Royal quarto set of four Spitfire Mk.IXs in 1/72 after I finish the Noisy Star.

Thanks but I am well aware of that, Chuck. Painfully so in fact. Just as I am about the new mould Swift, RB-45C, Brigand, Attacker, Hawk, etc, etc, etc that are streets ahead of the old, rare vacs and resins and cottage-industry injection kits that I spent years tracking down between 1995 and 2005. However, I am trying hard to use what I have in the stash and avoid the temptation of the new, better kits (and believe me that is hard).

David
PS. I also do sometimes succumb e.g. the Airfix Valiant.

Looking at the little Revell Mustang in my stash. It's not bonny. More flash than a photography convention. Doesn't look a great kit.

Might spring for a couple of Hasegawa Mustangs. I have at least two, maybe three, in mind for the movie collection....!
