Roden 1/72 drought in Australia?

Recommendations of all those increasingly rare LMS's in a town near you, so the rest of us can find them and marvel! Also, the places near you where blokes approach you, furtively clutching the latest SAMI and smelling of resin.

Roden 1/72 drought in Australia?

Post by VickersVandal »

Fellow Aussies, does anyone know if there's a problem with importing Roden into Aus? The supply of 1/72 kits, particularly WW1 appears to have evaporated, certainly in Sydney anyway. From talking to model shops I still can't work out if its just that they're not good sellers or whether they just aren't being imported any more. Apparently there's only one importer. They're also getting to be pretty rare on eBay. Maybe Roden has even cut back production.

Anyone know? I cop grief from the other half if I go on buying sprees so I tend to space purchases out as much as possible but if they're disappearing I'll need to grab a bundle before the only way to get them is from eBay pirates.

I tend to buy everything online, the 2 main hobby shops in Melbourne (city) are ok but lack alot of choice. Of course they can't fit everything but it would be nice to see more brands and subject matter. From what I know Roden isn't going out of business though.

OK, not in Oz, but Squadron Shop is the US importer and they have plenty. Here's the 1/72 aircraft query (2 pages)

Not saying you want to go through them, postage and all, but it is an indicator ....

Or go direct to Roden ( http://www.roden.eu/; ), you cannot buy from them but they always kept a pretty good "in production" listing ....
and here's your Australian distributor, chase him down, appears to be over by Perth?

Thanks, John! I have one hobby shop seeing if they can get more stock in, from that importer no doubt, so I'll see how that goes. It could be low demand in shops led to the importer cutting back. Who knows.
From what you've put up regarding O/S it doesn't look as if Roden is producing any less so that answers my basic question about whether I need to hoard them like some kind of demented biplane-loving squirrel....

Saxon, I've found the Victorian Hobby Centre to have a pretty good range. Not exhaustive by any means but a better range in top-end kits than the big NSW shops.....more than just Tamigawa and Revellfix.
