Paint Bottle Rack

Post by fredk »

Do you use Vallejo paint, or the other makes in similar bottles?
Recently when I was collecting my order from a local company which cuts MDF with lasers I spotted this paint rack.

Today I got around to buying a couple.
The rack is laser cut from 3mm MDF board, hence the burn marks on the cut edges. It can be painted or left as it is.
The rack comes either 'flat pack' or made up. Flat pack is £4.95. Ready built is £1 extra.
There are six pieces, which slot together, just needing a bit of PVA to make the joints secure.

The back and ends are cut so the rack can be free standing, and also another can be mated on top. The back has two key-hole slots for wall hanging. It has holes for holding 24 paints with tops pointing downwards.

It took me about 10 minutes to glue it together. I found the slots/tongues on the shelf parts a bit too tight, a gentle tap with a mallet put them together, a light sanding would have been better.
The only problem I see is on the bottom row; theres nowt to stop the bottles slipping through. Thats ok if its on a desk, but if its the bottom row and wall mounted the bottles might drop to the floor. I don't think it would be too hard to glue on some sort of 'stop'.

The place I got them from is called ''Lasersmith'' in Newtownards, County Down [N.I.] They have other items in their range which might suit a modeller. They do offer mail order too. The staff are nice and pleasant to deal with.

{NB: I have no connection to the company other than as a satisfied customer}

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

They are a good buy! I've got one from a company that has been knocking these out for a few years and exhibitsat SMW, but charge a lot more! I've got a two tiered Tamiya paints one that holds around 60 bottles but cost ~£30. Couldn't justify it to myself so I asked someone to buy it me as a present :D
