Yes, I've been considering a diorama involving a fighter attacking a bomber, and have been wondering how to convincingly model damage and smoke. Is that just cotton wool and some orange and yellow cellophane?

That's exactly what it is mate. I took a length of brass rod - bent a 90 degree turn at one end to be Super Glued into a hole drilled into the side of the nacelle after attaching the 'flames' and 'smoke'. The flames are carefully scrunched up Quality Street wrappers skewered onto the rod, starting with the yellow ones nearest the "source" of the fire, orange and then red ones, and finally brown ones (I forget which sweets come in which wrappers but they all tasted good!) leading in to the cotton wool. Then I attacked the lot with scissors to give them ragged edges in an attempt to make it look flame like.

The cotton wool was coloured by grating grey and black chalk pastels across sandpaper onto the wool and rubbing it in - a very messy job but I wasn't sure how well the cotton wool would react to being spray painted - something I will try after Telford. This was my first attempt and basically made it up on the spot. It doesn't bare close inspection but from a distance should do the job I think.

Cheers
Al.

Hello,

Your scene is fantastic! Well done and a great idea!

Just one question, why do you change the squares on the controller's van?

I iantend to build one too, but from the old airfix Walrus boxtop, wtith the sinking Hurricane.

Best regards,
