Cost of canvas: $1.25, Frame $1.25 x 2 (will use one frame for the back, and one for the front, with either perspex, glass or plywood on the sides).
I intend to spray the front frame in a gradient of light blue on the inside to either black or dark blue on the outside.
Not sure yet whether the other two Hunters will be 1:144 items or cardboard cutouts.

I screwed a wood screw into the back of the painting, and superglued it in place with gel. The alumunium tubes (except for the top one) are superglued together, and the bottom one screws into the screw, while the top one is glued into the model.
Compare and contrast:
Obviously, I changed my mind about the frame, and it's now in midnight blue, grading to satin black at the edges. On reflection, it should have been in white. but this will go better with my TSR2 print.

Brews wrote:Thanks, Al. It looks ok, but I think I'll replace the smoke on the canvas for the model with some fluffy white substance emanating from the jetpipe.
For the other two planes, I'll send it to the UK with cardboard cut-outs. Should someone wish to substitute smaller models, that will be ok too
I recall a KP (I think) 1:72 Su-7 that came with a very small model as a "bonus". That would be just about a perfect size for one of the smaller ones. As it is, I think a whittler might be the best option.

Brews wrote:Thanks, James. The "main" Hunter is almost finished. Just a few decals, and perhaps a satincote or similar to protect the finish. The canopy is a little dirty on the inside, thanks to wet-sanding cuttings finding their way up the jetpipe. I've told you, but I'm hoping noone's going to make me clean it up.

It's looking great, by the way and will look well, hung up.

Brews wrote:Thanks, Bruce. I'll get it in the mail this week, if not tomorrow. I did pull the canopy off and cleaned it out, by the way.
Brews wrote:There would be room for a 1:144 but I think that would be too big. 1:210 would be the scale to fit the proportions of the box art for the bigger of the two smaller Hunters, while the smaller would be at 1:450. I'm currently working on that one. I have a fuselage at the moment, and templates for the wings and tailplanes.

Here is the little beast. The fuselage was grafted from the sprue of an Airfix (new tool) Hawk. I'll make the canopy from a blob of Micro Kristal Klear, I think. I tried stretching some clear spure, but it's a devil to file to shape.

Re: Brew's Airfix 1/72 Hawker Hunter (Black Arrows)
Got home an hour and a half late this evening due to a fire at Manchester Piccadilly. Unfortunately this left with less time to finish of one of the little Hunters for Brews whose parcel was thankfully delivered today.
Fuselage was done wings and tailplanes needed cutting to the plans Brews had supplied.
Tamiya filler smoothed with a wet finger.
Yep, I forgotten the dog tooth until after I painted it. Roundels painted by hand.
The finish article. We'll call this one an international collaboration
Need sleep now as I need to get up early to pack all these models that have filled the house.
