Beaufighter Strike Force, Mustang Escort

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

Here's all the prelims, back in the Strike Force GB: http://www.uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=181&t=1299;

I'd like to say it's done, but it's not ... real world, non-modeling things in the way.

Beaufighters: Built, painted grey & sky; engines painted, exhausts & cowl rings painted, crew needs faces painted. Ready for decals. Working weaponry. In too much hurry so I used wrong one for torps, had to fill rocket mount holes. Forgot about acetate rod and torpedo so had to drill hole in it. Need final bits, pieces, some touchup paint, canopies & a dullcoat.

Mustangs: Built, stripes all painted, painted grey under & over, have to mask for DG then paint, then on to decals. Crew painted except faces. Need final bits, some touchup paint, canopies & dullcote.

Sorry for the lousy picture. What you can see is 3 Beaufighters, painted, decaled, and in the final assembly/paint stages. And 4 Mustangs just out of paint shop - they need touch-up, decals, and a few final parts.

There are two rocket-Beau's and one Tor-Beau, all in same camo, etc. The codes are made-up and I have included no serials, if they are low down, they'll be hidden under the tail plane anyway.

I read that Mustangs came over in US paint equivalents, that the formula varied, that sometimes planes got a complete or partial repaint -- so my four are a mix of greys, greens, drabs. I also did two A-scheme and two B-scheme. Sky and white bands for all. Decaling will go easy I hope, I found a 4-aircraft sheet from Techmod of 315 Sqn Mustangs, so I have all the codes and little Polish insignia I need. It may all look a bit ragged with the varying colors & such -- try not to let any Polish visitors be offended by my interpretation.

I expect to put all this in the mail Monday the 31st. There is a (costly) 3-business day option that'll have 'em there by the end of the week or first thing next.

I have a cold and sore throat and so am maximizing my "sick-bed" time to get these done ....

Excellent work. Hope they get to the UK side of the Pond ASAP, as the Blenheims are on their Flak suppression run to the Beaus can attack unmolested :grin:
