Edgar Brooks Mem GB: Every Mark Spitfire *** Archived ***

Post by Martin R »

Chaps,

An idea mooted on the YCNHTM Spitfires GB was to do a GB commemorating the 80th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire in Mar 2016 (yeah, I know it's a bit early to sign up for. However, in principle . . . .)

The aim of the GB would be to build at least one of every mark of Spitfire / Seafire, so it would take a bit of organising. What I'm looking for at the moment is to gauge the level of interest in this idea in principle. If so, I'd like to reserve a provisional slot in next year's diary for March (even thought it doesn't yet exist. Sorry, John!)

If we get enough interest, I would propose polling participants somewhat nearer the time (say September time or so) to get them to provide a prioritised list of the marks they would want to model (say 5 in total). I - or other designated GBL - would then collate the list and try to come up with matching marks to builders. If this can be done so that all are not too unhappy, then it would be up to the builder to choose which actual airframe they would build.

I am well aware that there could be a lot of debate about what could be chosen. For instance, are early PR types all variants of the Mk I or should they be treated as separate 'marks'. Not sure at present, but we'll just have to have a dialogue and try to choose a sensible way forward. Suggestions welcomed.

The final thing I should say is that, depending on the number of builders, we may all have to be a bit flexible on what we finally build. I don't think that, up front, we can guarantee that we will be able to satisfy everyone if we do want to cover all the variants. Discussion welcomed.

So, wih the above potential (likely?) constraint, is anyone interested in this? (Please form an orderly queue behind Daz).

regards,

Martin

Def interested in this, and as far as the mark is concerned, I'm happy to pick up any mark not chosen at the end of the poll

I may be up for this depending on what mark and when it is.

Are you including Seafires?

Either way - I'd be happy to do one of the more obscure variants if it helps!
