Fantasy F1 Group Build

Post by iggie »

This was suggested by Splash in my F1 Meteor thread (Here: http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=12535), so if no one likes the idea it's his fault! If of course it turns out to be wildly successful, then it's all mine :-D
I've done two Fantasy F1 schemes now, inspired by the work of Claveworks Graphics, who have produced a series of F1 inspired schemes for a variety of aircraft, both old and new.
This is a link to their website where you will find the illustrations: http://www.clavework-graphics.co.uk/air ... g_001.html

All the schemes are in side elevation only, and the fun part is determining what the likely scheme would be for the rest of the aircraft. Decals are readily available (although they can in fairness be a little pricey) and searching for F1 Decals 1/24 or 1/20 or 1/16 will usually yeild a multitude of options.

My proposal (Splash's if it bombs don't forget) is for a 4 week GB, any aircraft (not just the ones illustrated by Claveworks) in any F1 scheme. The scheme used must be identifiable as an F1 type scheme, even if not exactly as the original (it can be hard to get all the sponsors logos/liveries/numbers exactly right). It's a great way to use up an older kit, perhaps lacking in all the up to date details, recessed panel lines etc. that we all love nowadays, and to give it some pazazz with an eye-popping paint job.

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

This sounds like a great idea and something a little bit different.

I could have a crack at making my own decals. So yes I am up for it.
A MiG-3 would look very nice in Ferrari colours.

Do they have to be specifically F1 liveries or will any race car livery be OK? Either way, I'm in.

I think it would be ok either way, as Claveworks have used NASCAR liveries as well as F1. As long as the livery is recognisable as being a motor sport team then I should say it's fine
