Domini G/B prposal

Post by Gregers »

All the talk and superb models of the DH/HS125 Domini (see link below) has finally tempted me. Anyone fancy joining in on a DH/HS125 Group build?. I suggest both Airfix and Matchbox kits be allowed.

All the best.

Any more interest in this?. I know the kit is quite rare(ish) now but it can still be had for not too ridiculous amounts of money.

All the best.

Got one here Greg. Let me look it over.

It'll be good to have you both aboard. I plan on doing a Manby one and a Finningley one if time permits, or maybe a Matchbox one. I've got about six Airfix kits to go at and an aftermarket decal sheet to play with.

All the best.

I might be up for this, I've just done my Airfix T.1 but I do have the Matchbox 125/600 in the stash.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

That's five of us. Certainly enough for a shared build but I would love this to be a G/B. The 125 is an important type and is still going strong around the world.

I would be up for this Greg if I can get my hands on the Matchbox Hawker Siddeley 125/600. Been after one for years as I fancy doing a South African Mercurius. They seem to be rarer than hen's teeth though.

If I could find one before the start date I am a definite as I have already done the research.

So if anyone comes across one please pm me. MAV decals do a set of SAAF markings. 8-)

The Mercurius was a HS-125 Series 400B, so quintessentially similar to the RAF's CC1.

I reckon the best way to build one is to kitbash the Matchbox and the Airfix together. The Matchbox is a Series 600 so lacks the Flight Deck 'cap' (but has the small forward ventral bulge and aft ventral fuel tank) and is 3'1" too long in the fuselage (and too tall in the dorsal fin).

Additionally it has the wrong Viper engines (Viper 601 as opposed to Viper 522) which are too long and the wrong shape. The Viper 522 had the same 'pod' as the Viper 301 fitted to the Dominie.

Thanks for the info, very useful. If I ever get my hands on both kits I will bash them.

By my reckoning that makes eight of us for this build assuming everyone who posted wants in still. Any more takers for this? The DH/HS/BAe125 is one of the unsung hero's of the aviation world and it's a fine looking aircraft and makes a fine model too.

All the best.
