In The Navy - Royal Navy Ships GB *** Complete & Archived***
We don't get many non-aircraft GBs here, so here's a pretty broad ship theme that I hope will attract a goodly number of builders - any ship operated by the Royal Navy. All sorts of subjects would be eligible here, from galleons to the big ships-of-the-line to dreadnoughts and battlewagons through to the frigates and destroyers of today. Manufacturers range from Airfix, Matchbox and Frog of yore, to Dragon, Trumpeter and Orange Hobby of today, and in scales from 1/1200 up to 1/72.
I have around a dozen suitable subjects in my stash, but I haven't built a ship in donkey's years - and it's about time I did! I'm sure there are a lot of you out there I the same boat, so to speak....
The GB calendar is filling up rapidly for the first half of the year, so I'd propose a June/July/ August timeframe, and would like to also solicit opinions on the length of the build - 4 or 6 weeks?

I'll use this as the impetus to start my Combrig 1/700 HMS Canada, though it will probably be more start than completion

Yup.. Count me in. I started out as a ship builder and this would be a great kick in the behind to get me back into it. Already have a couple of RN types in the stash, but might splash out on a kit.,

YEP! Count me in for certain!
It'll be something in 1/350 I would expect, although I have a couple of possible 1/600 candidates as well.
6 weeks would be good though

Always, but I'll know better once we sort the CBK plan and I know my build workload.

I wouldn't mind doing a ship build just for a change of pace. Perhaps a 1/700 HMS Warspite....

Put me in as a maybe.
Enjoyment over accuracy. That's my motto
Re: In The Navy - Royal Navy Ships GB Proposal
Sounds interesting, done a few ships over the last few years but not as many as aircraft!!. Have one or two contenders, a Trumpeter 1/700 Warspite 1917 and a 1/350 Airfix Illustrious!!. Might need a six week build for that one!.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Re: In The Navy - Royal Navy Ships GB Proposal
That's a good point: I've got some small-ish 1/700 jobs, but a six week window would provide temptation to get out of the comfort-zone and take on a big 'un..MarkyM607 wrote:Sounds interesting, done a few ships over the last few years but not as many as aircraft!!. I have the Trumpeter 1/700 HMS Hood, 1930s version. The GB would give me an incentive to get it on the bench.

OK, so far we have nine and a maybe. I'll put up a date poll by the weekend.

Nice idea. Would you include RN's Sister Navys? ie RAN, RNZN, RCN etc. We all fought under the same flag after all.

Another 'Maybe'
Maybe I'll feel like making models by the time this comes around.
Are you keeping to the proper Royal Navy time line, ie from 1668 [?]
or will you allow pre RN? as English or British navy?
Also; the first ship I thought of doing for this I'd need at least 12 weeks. As thats impossible, then six weeks and I'll only build half of it.
