Yep. My original plan of a Royal Navy F-14 Tomcat may be scuppered as I only have one and that is earmarked for another project. Although I do have one or two spare F/A-18's....
(deffo sort something out!).

I'm very slow on the uptake as always so have only just started reading about this GB, but I'm IN! It will give me chance to
resurrect my Rebel Alliance Defiant that I posted about in my Workbench thread ages ago but never got off the ground.
The main reason is that the resin R2 figure was more suited in size to a 1/48th scale Defiant. Fortunately, Airfix must have
been aware of my dilemma and decided to produce it in 1/48th specifically for me (hey, you said you wanted a fantastical
back story didn't you?!!).

Here is a modified extract of what I originally posted, but all that will change will be the scale of the kit as I've just said.

The inspiration is from the excellent Clavework Graphics site, in this instance it is the Boulton Paul Defiant in Rebel Alliance
markings with RD-D2 as the turret gunner - well, as the turret itself really!

http://www.clavework-graphics.co.uk/air ... y_281.html;

I have printed the Rebel Alliance decals myself, as well as some striping for the fuselage side - which is darker red as per the
graphic, but does show up as such in the photo. I still have to print some stencils for the aircraft numbers yet.
Image

R2 was very kindly made and provided by Rob in Holland, to whom I have sent a sheet of the Alliance decals in return.
Image

Obviously some very careful painting will be required here to do Rob's superb moulding justice.
Image

As usual for me the aircraft will be wheels up with a prop blur acetate and mounted on a stand so I have found a spare jet pilot
which I will have to modify and paint to look like young Skywalker or one of his associates.

I will also have to source a replacement exhaust like the one in the graphic and the cowling bulges for the engine - I know I have
several kits in the stash - I'm thinking an Academy Spitfire XIVe maybe which has been languishing in the stash for over a
decade - which should yield the parts I require which with a little filler should do the job.

Cheers
Al.

EDIT. And if I finish that one - I have a hankering to do this:

Been doing that thinking thing again (I know, I'll get some tablets for it!!). Does my Royal Navy F-14 or F/A-18 idea seem a little boring, having seen the above I'm not sure it's up to the task!!. :-|

That Defiant cries out to be in Rebel kit and R2 unit, and also loaded for bear. Count me still in this Group Build as well. Been pondering a few possibilities, hopefully not ones already rendered in scale by someone out there on the internet. I still have unfinished biz on other kits to attend to.

I was wondering the same about my F-20 Tigershark project but then I just thought 'Build it'. :ha:

I think anything can be a worthy participant in this GB - personally, I like seeing things like F-14s, F-18s etc in UK or other air arm schemes as much as the imaginative combining of parts from different machines to create something unique. So I hope we get a good mix of approaches to 'WhatIf'.

I'm looking forward to this one. I have been getting in some practice over the last month with Bf109 and Spitfire racers and I'm just finishing off a Belgian Tempest.

Fighters always look great in racing kit. This image blows me away but seems kind of expensive in execution...

Do we need the backstory ready for the start of the build or at the end?
