But the towed aircraft would have to be a fuel tank with wings to feed the thing ...

Well, I'm now in possession of two Airfix 177As....

I think this is a stupid idea. 2 ancient kits with no detail & lots of rivets with a half-thought through plan and no place to store the finished product. What could possibly go wrong?

I was originally thinking of 1 engine in each outboard wing and one on the joined centre section, giving only 3 / 6. I only have 4 / 8 to play with in any case, but would it have got off the ground?

Also, what is the back story?

Regards

Martin

It struggled to fly with the 4, so a double fuselage with 6 wouldn't make it; but of course Mercedes had by then invented the DB660 series engines with a lot more power.
A gun in the rear of the centre engine pod?
Anti-shipping strike from Norway over the Icelandic gap? Two torpedoes, one each side of the centre engine. And a couple of those r/c flying bombs they had.

Or a B-29 competitor with extended fuselage and 4 developed DB610?

Sounds like the back story is struggling to get off the ground, closing with the horrified look on the pilot's face when he realizes the trees at the end of the runway are shading him ....

Right, I've decided: an enlarged He177 with 4 developed DB610 engines as an Amerika bomber.

The 177 would have been so much better off if it had developed further into the 277. I say go for it; it is a great idea for a whiffflugzeug (if that's a word). I too am still in, and although I have a couple of ideas I will deliberate on declaring what they will be for now.
