Eric 'Winkle' Brown Memorial GB *** Complete/Archived ***
The greatest pilot of all time died on February 21st 2016
Captain Brown flew 487 different types of aeroplanes. A world record.
Other records he holds is the number of carrier deck landings, first carrier deck landing by a twin engine aeroplane, first carrier deck landing of a jet, first carrier deck landing of an aeroplane with tricycle u/c.
Circumstances will never be the same for anyone else to pass those records.
Other than in his log books some of the types are mentioned in the many books he wrote.
In some books there are photos or notes which indicate by way of code letters or numbers exactly which aeroplane he flew.
However, many are not known exactly, unless one wants to get into the depths of research.
[On a thread on Britmodeller someone has listed many of the Luftwaffe types with codes]
With 487 types there are plenty for everyone to model.
Many of the types are available, or were, as kits.
Conversions maybe for some, scratch building for the brave.
I'm not going to list the 487.

Basic rules
1: Any of the types or marks of types Winkle flew
2: If possible, the model to have the exact markings
3: One type/mark of aircraft to each modeller; a modeller can do as many aircraft types or marks he/she chooses but no-one else may do that same aircraft type then. As there are 487 types, and loads of individual marks and only a few of us there are plenty to go around.

Re: Eric 'Winkle' Brown Memorial GB
I'm up for this, date unimportant other than not June please
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: Eric 'Winkle' Brown Memorial GB
Names list updated.
Just one more name needed.
Right, so far
2 x 'after Telford'
1 x any time except June
1 x 'depends'
After Telford would make it mid-November to mid-December
Any other suggestions/requests?

Re: Eric 'Winkle' Brown Memorial GB
Yes let's get a pole sorted as the GB dance card is already getting full.
I am thinking of building the Blohm & Voss BV 141 that Winkle flew whilst visiting a Soviet air base shortly after the war ended. IIRC the Soviets were using the BV 141 as a squadron hack. Better re-read 'Wings on my sleeve' and do some research.

I'm certainly up for this. I have quite a few models that will fit the bill here. Post Telford would be perfect though.
