Tails from your local GB
I know I'm turning into a serial GB DNF'er but I can't get this GB idea out of my head. What I'm proposing is a that participants build any subject they wish as long as its is a plane/ship/vehicle based most locally to them either currently or in the past. As this seems a fairly multi-regional forum I thought the variation in subjects could be quite interesting. Perhaps you might live near an interesting site past or present such as a factory or base (I'm in Derby, home of Rolls-Royce cars, but I have plenty of old airfields within 20 miles). Someone might be coastal and want to go down the Naval route. Obviously the more local research the better and it would be interesting to see peoples' thoughts and ideas. This is a chance to dig up and share some local history.

Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

As I live near Cosford I may have quite a few options

As I'm next to the site of the former Empire Air Training Base at Rockcliffe, Ottawa, I have plenty of options, many of them painted yellow
So I'm in.

For me to join, I'd need to scratchbuild this from up the street:

While it's certainly on my list of things to do one day, within the confines of a GB?.....sadly unlikely.

I'm probably snowed under with GB's for most of this year already. But what the heck! . Nearest to me airfield wise are Wyton, Alconbury and Molesworth modern-ish but there is also Great Staughton, Tempsford, Kimbolton and Bassingbourn, older era. Might be a few to choose from!.
(Oh and some place called Duxford although I think I might be stretching the distance there).

Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Re: Tails from your local GB
Well, in MK we have Bletchley Park (thinking possibly a 1/72 U Boat for that), Cranfield (quite a bit of general aviation and of course one of XH558's last displays in RAF ownership), the old RAF Wing (used as a base for returning POWs after the war (Lanc's, Halifaxes and Dak's) and Mursley water tower (RAF Wellington crash site) so I should be able to do something
Best wishes

Living in East Lancashire I'm sure I could find something of interest to build.

Re: Tails from your local GB
yeah... that sister-aircraft to the Felixstowe is deffo on my to-do list.. I'd have to check if the Lough Foyle A-1032 (from the Roden decal sheet) spent any time in Cobh (or Queenstown as it was known then) but there's some decent photos of the ones at Cobh so serials wouldn't be too hard to mock up. I'm overdue a visit there.. there's a fair amount of the old UNAS base at Aghada still visible a century later.VickersVandal wrote:You know you want to....Arcwelder wrote:Curtiss Flying boats at Cobh... Indeed, this is a grand idea.
Sadly, I am a prolific failure in the GB business. So much so, that it is now an embarrassment to enter more than one at a time. For me, people will just have to quit coming up with good idea's.
Bye-the-way, it's 'tales'. 'Tails' refers to something else.

I know your GB pain. I wouldnt let that put anyone else off participation though! My use of 'Tails' was deliberate in reference to aircraft 'tails' but I appreciate with the feedback!59North wrote:Indeed, this is a grand idea.

Look like this might be good to arrange some dates for but I'm working away from home until Thursday so I'll hopefully get a time-frame arranged over the weekend. Thanks again for the interest.
