Searching for an Aviation Group Build?
Hi,
After reading so many posts in this forum, I thought: "why not writing something myself?"
Right now I´m interested in joining a group build, in the Modelling club I joined in Germany, they´re all so busy with their
different "construction sites", that they can´t find the time to start one.
And it´s difficult to agree on one "theme" to buid, when one is into cars only, other in tanks only, and so on, and so on.
Since the net allows us to do group builds all over the world, I thought, why not asking around here?!
I built mostly 1/72, and I would describe myself as a moderate beginner in modelling.
I built mostly for fun, so I´m more keen on a "fun build" group build. But not a "slap-together"-kind-of-thing either.
I have to admit I´m still building the occasional Frog model, and I really like Matchbox biplane kits.
The other MB stuff with just one wing can be very crude, but some quite ok, that I really like, like MB´s Sabre!
So anyone know about a group build here?
When I typed in "group build" in the search bar, I couldn´t find any..
Kind regards,
Markus

Welcome Markus
One of the most enjoyable aspects of this forum are its group builds, as Paul has said, check out the GB calendar and if you can't find one you like, you can suggest your own get enough supporters on here and get it added to the calendar.
We look forward to seeing you builds.

Re: Searching for an Aviation Group Build?
Thank you for the many answers, guys.
I'm a bit puzzled though that most GBs have only a schedule of 4 weeks - since I'm really a slow builder!
Regards,
Markus

Re: Searching for an Aviation Group Build?
I've found it difficult to complete projects in the short span of the builds here as well. There are longer group builds (3 months typically) at Britmodeller.comCrashpilot wrote:Thank you for the many answers, guys.

I have found these to be just the right length, diverse in coverage, and full of friendly and helpful participants.

I have moved this topic here for broader discussion.
Just a note that there is a link to prior GB's stickied at the top of each modeling forum.

Re: Searching for an Aviation Group Build?
In 24 hrs I'd only manage a simplified cockpit in 72,
w/o all the levers and knobs...
I'm really slow - I needed ca. 8 days to finish a revell micro wings P51B in 144, and thats really a simple kit with hardly 20 parts..
Happy (slow) modelling t'all.

We do have Shared Builds for groups not wanting to stay within the confines of a Group Build.

Re: Searching for an Aviation Group Build?
Markus,
You have raised an important question and to help us think about it, can you tell us why you consider yourself "slow".
To be honest, everyone of us here has had a stretch (or three) where getting 20 parts done in 8 days was a superb accomplishment - I am in another of those right now due to non-modeling things taking my time.
I hope you have read our Guidelines, stickied at the top 3 topics of this form. What would be your suggestions for GB duration in light of your own modeling style ?

Re: Searching for an Aviation Group Build?
Oh, thanks, it´s the first time I´m writing here, and I get so much attention.
I think you don´t have to change anything here, there´s nothing wrong about finishing in a hurry - first of all, it´s the best way to reduce the stash pile, right?
Main reason I take my time with it: It´s only one of my hobbies, and not the most important one for me.
Other: I only got back to modelling 2 years ago, I had a lapse of more than 15 years.
The first model I finished after the break took me, say, one and half month of work, and it was only a Baby-MiG-21 in 1:100 by East German Plasticart. Ok, I improved it a bit, but didn´t go crazy over it, cause it´s quite toyish (but has its charms).
There was already mention of other ways of theme orientated builds, so I´ll look after that.
Seems to me that our hobby is a lot more wide spread in the UK than in Germany, there are so many more forums, with a lot more discussions, and so many more modelling mags than in Germany.
In Germany it´s more a hobby for "old freaks", I´m in my late thirties, and almost the youngest member in my modelling club, average age there around mid-fifties, I´d say.
In the next few days I´ll look around here where I could join in - up to then,
best regards,
Markus
