Starter Kit Challenge, Group Build Anyone?

Post by Cherrytree270 »

In the distant future...anybody fancy re living their first kit and doing
either a blitz build spitfire/hurricane or just a general group build?
I was thinking for fun one of Airfix's super cheap and not the nicest paints starter sets ;-)

Well, as the saying has it...... :-D

I'd be up for this; perhaps we could all make a starter kit (maybe not just Spits/Hurricanes) but use only the paints, brush and glue that comes in the starter kit
Best wishes

Quite a mix there.
I see five different lines of thought there, vis;
1. your first kit
2. a blitz
3. Spitfire
4. Hurricane
5. starter sets

1. Proposed a few times in the past but never got off the ground really
2. Blitz; one coming up in August
3. Spitfire; we just finished one a couple of months ago
4 Hurricane; we had one during May last year. Might be time to do another next year [I was a DNS in the last one  ]
5 Starter Sets as a topic; I can't see that that has been proposed directly before.

My first kit was an Airfix Wildcat, so very long ago. No starter sets back then.

Hi Fred

Yeah, I think I'm going to narrow it down to starter sets :-D
I'm new to the world of group builds and blitz builds etc so you may have to forgive
my mash up of terminology  (I will go give the glossary a one over :???: )

Basically the thing is, I've got a couple of starter sets people have kindly picked up for me sitting around looking pretty sad for themselves.
I would usually buy separate paints and get stuck in but I thought it would be fun to see if we could work with just the stuff supplied. I think what I would be suggesting is a group build however, as the kits are relatively simple it might be fun to do a..lightning build (but that would be put to the vote).

For now I need to figure out how to change the title of this post
Hope this clears up a few things, if not let me know ;-)

Good analysis, Fred. 'My first kit' can actually be too hard to accomplish - I spent years looking before I found the 1950-ish wooden stage coach kit which was mine. Hurricane would be nice sometime, I think I missed the last one and I have a number to do.

CT, let me ask -- are starter sets specifically labeled such (i.e. Starter Sets) or are we just talking a kit that comes with paint, brush, glue ? I ask because I have no Starter Sets in my stash, but I did just get the new-tool BE2c/E.III DFD set with paints. I guess rigging isn't exactly "starter", but it helps define what we're looking at.

Its up to Cherrytree to rule on that question.
'Starter Set' is trade marked by Airfix.
Revell, Heller and Tamiya [or is it Italeri?] all have different names for a model which is packaged with glue, paints and a brush.
Airfix market their bigger sets with paints as 'Gift sets' ~ thats what you probably have

Hey guys, I am glad there is some interest.
What came to mind was Airfix labeled starter sets but an equivalent that is packaged with the glue, paints and a brush
sounds fine to me.
The fun in this is that to my knowledge the pre-packaged kits don't have the best reputation e.g. not so great paints,
lack of additional colours etc so it would be fun to see how they come out if we only use the stuff supplied.

But to answer your question in short, as long as it's pre-packaged with the paints go for it :-D

I'm up for this one CT. I have an Airfix GR.9 starter set which I am willing to sacrifice to the GB.

If you are looking for ideas as to rules Britmodeller have done this kind of thing before http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/inde ... and-rules/

Maybe you could base it on this.

I think its best to keep raising interest first. You need 8 names fully interested before a GB can be a goer. Once you get to around 6 or 7 names, then do a date poll.
