CD GB Take Two

Post by iggie »

The CD GB last new year seemed to be a real success; anyone up for the same again this year? Any kit, genre, scale etc as long as it fits within a CD
Best wishes

What was the actual remit of this when you did it before?

Was it: Build and cobble whatever you like as long as the build overall fits within the size of a CD case? (so that a small tank, Jeep or Kubelwagen etc could be made into a scene..

Or did there have to be some link into a CD or track on an album?

I could be "up for it" ... depends on when I can get everything "sorted" and get back into my new modelling den! . which is now likely to be 2017.The old/current one is now pretty much "semi-closed for business". The M/box GB will be the start of using the new den ... if not I'll be modelling on tray on kitchen table for that I think

I took this from the Chat & Sign-up post in the Past GB section, 2016, and think it addresses your questions.

The GB is a play on words - Compact Disc and Compact Diorama - and the purpose/goal is to build a model of any scale or subject or whatever, preferably a small scene, that fits completely within the circumference of a CD (or equivalent size DVD, BlueRay - you get the idea.) Extra credit and karma is awarded if the subject of the diorama matches the CD title.

I could build something to fit in a CD, but I think I had my only flash of "theme match" brilliance and am now devoid of same.

As John says but note that the link between track/film title of the dvd used and the build subject was not a mandatory requirement; extra points would be awarded for such creative genius

Oh no!!, it took several versions of my Enterprise/Reliant idea to clear customs (or the rules!!). Think I'm like John, will have to get thinking before signing up, but it's a nice idea.

Would it help to give folks ideas if I was to suggest that Audiobooks could also be CDs? (You don't even have to possess the actual audiobook, just download an image of the cover and place a print-off copy in the CD case!) I'm already thinking of a scene from 'Piece of cake'
This also applies to DVDs so there could be a movie or book theme as well as a music theme (not that there actually HAS to be a theme, just a bijou build)

Do not forget that John will need time to charge up his special Laser which he will use to cut off anything which doesn't fit on the silver disc.

Just a bump for this GB suggestion; if there are no more takers then we can put it to bed, if there are more to come on-board then we'll need to get a move on for this to be the Christmas holidays GB
Best wishes
