'Aces High' GB
Hi,
The 'other' idea mooted during our MVR discussions was for a GB covering 'Aces' Pilots / aircrew with 5 or more aerial victories.
The proposed scope would be for any time frame from the dawn of military aviation to the present day.
The Proposed GB covers Aircrew / pilots with 5 or more aerial victories not aircraft. In reality victories were often accounted for flying different aircraft. For the GB you'd have to model an Aces aircraft they scored at least 1 victory in.
Note also the GB includes Aircrew Aces so gunners and WSO's are included again if you pick one of these you need to model an aircraft they achieved 1 victory in.
What the above parameters give you is a large remit for a multitude of types and periods. Something for everyone from WW1 Biplanes to Supersonic F-4's. In every theatre of conflict.
So can we scrape enough support together for a GB?
Hopefully so...
Over to you guys to show your support.

Re: 'Aces High' GB
Strong probable from me. Is this just for aircraft or would a converted figure of the ace himself count?

Hi,
Yes I think that busts and figures depicting 'Aces' are fine. But I think the figure needs to accurately portray the person being represented.
So painting a generic RAF pilot figure and saying this is Johnnie Johnson is not reasonable.
I'll also say mini dioramas and Vignettes of aces in action are also ok.
So to recap any model aircraft in any scale in any time frame as long as it was flown / crewed by an ace and achieved 1 victory in the Aircraft.
Figures and busts in any scale ok but must provide a reasonable facsimile of the person being represented.
Mini Dioramas and Vignettes of 'Aces in Action' are acceptable.
For the purposes of this GB Ace Status is a minimum of 5 air to air victories.
What's not in the GB scope. Panzer 'Aces' U boat 'Aces' multiple bombing mission or ground target kills.
WHIF's or Movie schemes.
It's a huge scope.

Re: 'Aces High' GB
That sounds good; adds some dimension and if we have some figure/bust modelers deftly removes it from conflict with the NMT 3 aircraft-only GB rule.
Fortunately for any Ace's self-image, I will not be doing a figure/bust. BTW, that does not mean I'm signing up yet, I need to find an "interesting" ace/aircraft combo.

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Re: 'Aces High' GB
I might go for this if there were any F-105 aces, if not I'll see what I can find. I have about thirty of the Aircraft of the Aces Osprey series so that might be helpful.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

No F105 Aces.. All the American aces in Vietnam flew a variant of the F-4.
F-105's got MiG kills but that alone doesn't make em eligible for this GB.
Plenty of other subjects though. Hopefully you can take part.

I should like to enter, as a placeholder, the Hasegawa MiG-17F flown by Nguyen Van Bay.

Re: 'Aces High' GB
Off the top of my head I was thinking of George Beurling on Malta (John Boy Walton lookalike), Willy Coppens the Belgian WW1 Balloon busting Ace (Large nose) or James McLachlan the One Armed Ace (Fairly distinctive! ) ...the trouble is that I can't find a reasonable photo of McLachlans face or the hook that he had specially made for operating the throttle.Gadfly wrote:Hi,

Thought as much, I know the F-105 did get kills but I've not heard of any aces so not surprised! . Maybe an F-4 then.... I'll investigate and see what matches in the stash!.Gadfly wrote:No F105 Aces.. All the American aces in Vietnam flew a variant of the F-4.
