Re: Rare and Golden oldie G/B
Greg, am I right in saying this is the Airfix kit? assuming it is this was first produced in 1964 but it was last produced in 2015 so this will be down to the box lid although the box you show in the picture does seem to be an early style of packaging.

Guessing; if the plastic is black this might be the 'Black Cat' version, issued between '86 and '07

It is a USAIRFIX boxing copyright date 1979.
I'll post up box art pics in a few moments.

This one is right on the line and could have been made after the date in an identical box but it was also made in the USA under the MPC label (from the same tool?) from 1971 (is this the same company under a different name?) so who knows- this is one you should ask gregers about.

That one looks good to go to me. I like the Airfix Cat. I really like that markings option. Not one that was available this side of the pond unfortunately.

So? I'm good to go with this? Classic New Yorker interjection there fellas. I'm looking forward to getting started on this.

Re: Rare and Golden oldie G/B
Is it safe to assume that any multi-tone Matchbox kit with the pink and white instructions is original and pre-80s. I have some Hong Kong-based multi-tones with B&W instructions that I am sure are more recent but the pink style instructions I always thought to be original MB...?
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

I think you are correct there. I have never had a chinese matchbox with the pink instructions. The poor quality decals can be a clue also.

Re: Rare and Golden oldie G/B
Sorry, I have changed my plans, because I see the Shelf of Doom SB as a great chance to reduce my number of unfinished kits, so I don´t want to start a kit from zero, until for quite a while.Crashpilot wrote:I already fear it´ll become a DNF, the angle of its wing roots is very strange, if I leave it OOB, the wing would serve as one big air brakeThe kit I´ll butcher to make a not-so-golden( ) oldie is Heller´s MiG-21.
...So I´ll chop up the fuselage to change this
----> I´ll show you a pic of this OOB state later!
Even after the end of that SB, I´ll stick to that doom-shelf, for some self-educational reasons, because I really want to work on my vice of running away from finishing kits (..and all kind of important things in life!) really !
Another reason is the lack of time for doing kits from zero til finish right now, life is keeping me too busy.
But I´ll watch this Golden Oldie GB with great interest, anyway .
Waiting for the day, when wars for territory will be something to be read about in history books only.

Re: Rare and Golden oldie G/B
I may be able to participate, if my teaching schedule in September remains as is (it could change at short notice ). I have a boxed Airfix Grumman Duck in one of the old boxes (not the re-released red box).

Re: Rare and Golden oldie G/B
So is this Bad Boy still going down in September, Greg? I'm standing by with the Kiel Kraft to continue my sustained Sopwith Camel frenzy....Gregers wrote:OK folks. Now we need a date for this one. I see that there is a nice big blank space in the calendar in September. How do you folks think about this?. Is it ok for you?. It will get any builds you are considering for this done in time for Telford if you are planning to take them.
All the best.
