Fokker Triplane Centenary build *** Completed/Archived ***

Post by VickersVandal »

Who would be up for a Fokker F.1/Dr.1 GB? The most widely known combat aircraft of the Great War and the final mount of its highest scoring Ace is surely worthy of a group build, I would think.

I suggest October as the GB calendar is pretty empty in the second half of the year and it was the month when the Dr.1 (rather than the early F.1 type) entered combat.

Any takers? I'm pretty sure I still have one Roden kit in the stash, though if I don't, clearly I need to remedy this

Sounds good. I think I have the tiny Airfix version flown by Werner Voss. Might do that.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Sounds good. I have a few of the Revell 3in1 collectors choice kits and a few others all 1/72. I fancy doing Kempf's aircraft.

All the best.

I built the Roden Voss tripe but I'm such a fan of the Vosster I'm almost tempted to build a second one ;)

I think I could do this one.

Me too!. This would actually be the second of this kit I would have built, the original is still around somewhere. Although I've heard two versions of his final battle, both seem to agree he took on multiple opponents alone, at least for most of the fight. When I was going to build the first kit I was intending to paint it red ala Red Baron, but as it was the Aces edition and had text of the fight he was in it seemed wrong and the effort against many opponents seemed worthy of respect!!.

Voss was a superb pilot. Richthofen was quite over-rated in my opinion. He used clever tactics but Voss really knew how to fly.

So, currently we have:

VickersVandal
MarkyM607
Gregers
Jssel (possibly)

We might have a viable GB here. Will see if more jump on board.

For 1/48 the only one I can think of is the SMER one. It has also been repackaged by mistercraft. If memory serves me correctly SMER had it listed at 1/44 scale though.

All the best.

This might be of interest to those considering this GB but without a suitable kit in the stash:

I have no connection with Tiger Hobbies, just happened to see this while perusing their online store
Best wishes

I've got two triplanes in the stash, so count me in!

Then, of course, there's the decision to build either of these:
