Guarding the Coast GB

Post by Chuck Finley »

I just picked up the Eduard "Riders in the Sky" Coastal Command Liberator GR. Mk.III & V re-box in 1/72. The plastic is the Hasegawa B-24D with Coastal Command markings for 13 aircraft, and extra parts including a Leigh Light, Chin Radar, and rockets. That got me thinking about seeing if anybody would be interested in a Coastal Command/Maritime build. The build will allow any land-based or sea planes used for Patrolling, Anti-Submarine Warfare, Maritime Recon, Air-Sea Rescue, or anti-shipping from between the wars to present day. Acceptable subjects would be modern aircraft like the BAE Nimrod MR2, Avro Shackelton, P-3C Orion, P2 Neptune, Breguet Atlantique, Beriev Be-6, Be-10, Be-12. Or, World War II aircraft like the PBM-5 Mariner, P4Y-2 Privateer, Supermarine Stranraar, or Do-18, to name a few.

Bombers will be allowed if they were used primarily in the Maritime Patrol/ASW role. For example, the USAAF B-24D or B-18s, Vickers Wellington, Avro Lancaster MR3.

The only hard requirement is that the aircraft must have been used in a maritime function.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Interested! Depends on timing though as my only candidates are all a bit large so would not benefit from running alongside another GB
Best wishes

Are you including ships in this GB Or just specifically Coastal Command?
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

This is tempting. I have a Matchbox Beaufighter that needs building. Not to mention quite a few other candidates like my P3 Orion amongst others.

All the best

I've always wanted to do one of the camo over white schemes. There's also the old Hasegawa Tracker rotting away in my stash; I should get to that one day.

I just won this on Ebay:

I've been after one for years so am well chuffed.
Depending on dates I would be very interested, I have a South African Ventura that would fit the bill too.

An odd one OT, never heard of TOGA.

Depending on dates etc, I'd jump in with my recently obtained Neptune in RAF markings.

Yes it does. One can also make the case for a B-52G or B-52H with 12 Harpoons hanging off the pylons.
