Real (scale) Life imitating Art Proposal

Post by iggie »

Sparked by Beany's brilliant work in turning Roger Dean's futuristic artwork into model form, how about a Real Life imitating Art GB? The concept would be to take a piece of artwork you like, or are inspired by and turn it into a real life version, but in miniature
Any subject, scale, kit etc. but built in the context of the original.

For those who have not seen Al's work (and where have you been then??? :ha: ): http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=23&t ... 31#p370931

No idea of timing yet, suffice to say next year would be a good guess and about six weeks to allow for some creativity....

So who's up for Turner's 'Fighting Temeraire'? :-D :-D :-D
Best wishes

Oh, I think I might be able to come up with something a bit offbeat. I'm in.

When you say 'Artwork' you're not limiting it to 'Fine Art' are you? I'm thinking of Album cover artwork like the
armadillo/ WW1 tank hybrid on Emerson, Lake and Palmers 'Tarkus' cover
the Heinkel 111 on Motorhead 'Bomber'
the Me262 on Blue Oyster Cults 'Secret treaties'
the FW 189 with dragonfly wings on 'Led Zeppelin 3'
(not going to use any of these myself, just putting the ideas out there )

And what about artwork from the likes of Commando books? there were a lot of unusual subjects in some of those stories

....will there be bonus points for creating 3D versions of the original artwork? :-D

Fine Art, Album Art, Box art.....pretty much anything goes, except that (there's always a 'but' ain't there!) the artwork must already exist. 8-)

3D recreations I would have thought would be automatic? :ha: :-D :-D

One of my favourite albums was Uriah Heep Salisbury so sign me up.

My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

I have been game to do Motorhead's Bomber for a long time. But the idea of doing Lemme, Philthy and Eddie Clarke in Braille scale and hidden behind thick glaziog seems a bit daunting to me. I did do a 262 in Secret Treaties getup many moons ago and it's on my flickr page. The Tarkus idea I like a lot too.

Sounds like an awesome idea. I doubt unfortunately I would get time for this. This reminds me of when I took my art exam. I had to re-create a well known art work in 2D and 3D form. I chose Van Gough's 'The Artists bedroom' I have to admit I didn't bother going back to collect the 3D version but I still have the 2D one someplace.

All the best.

I missed this when it came out, but worth inclusion here,
Commando comic artist Ian Kennedys vision of the poster for Leuchars Airshow 2116 :-D
