Choosing a Single Kit GB subject

Post by MerlinJones »

Usually, someone will make a list of suggestions and then there's be a poll. Quite often, we get lots of people saying "Ooooh yes please, I'll build a Dakota", (for example), before disappearing, never to be seen again, once that particular subject has been voted in.

I got to thinking...

To those of you who have Stashes, could you list 10 kits you'd like to see built in a Single Kit GB. Obviously, those without Stashes would be able to participate in the chosen Build, but it's more likely that you'll have to go and buy the kit first. If you've only got a Stash of around 10 kits, then it's likely you'd pick those 10 and I want more consideration from you than that.

I'd be looking at kits that can realistically be built within a 4-week time slot, taking into account the recording of the build..
It wouldn't be something particularly rare or unique, but it wouldn't necessarily have to be a CBK.
It wouldn't be something that has already been done, (so please check the previous GB's...no more Lancasters, DC-3's or Spitfires).
It would be a subject and/or kit that you can actually do things with, whether its accurisation, uber-detailing or coming in a variety of different forms.

Assuming you take into account the above criteria, we may end up with some kits that are repeated by others. Obviously, if 6 kits are repeated, then we have the basis for a Single Kit GB.
On the other hand, we might all present such diverse lists that I need to go away and have another think.

Regards,
Bruce

Interesting selection from your Stash, Brews...although with 4 weeks to complete an Eduard 1/144 Bf.109, we'd have to scratchbuild lickle engines and stuff! Ditto the Stuka.

As I appear to have the world's supply of DML Me262s and Fw190s I think we should do those. Everything else I have has been done to death. Oh no, wait. Tamiya Me262s. We could do those.

Hmm, we are getting some favourites emerging already.....!

Hudson and Rapide are two I forgot I have and would have included.....

The Hart is a great idea, John, but not easy to get a hold of - perhaps a joint Hart/Demon GB would be in order there - after all, the Demon kit was created using modified Hart moulds! And think of the conversion possibilities....

Agreed a Hart/Demon GB, although not an SKGB by strict definition, would allow for a lot of conversion/variant options ... and because they are clean, single-bay biplanes, not all that daunting for folks less experienced in rigging ...

This is a great idea to encourage us stashers to get building!! Have just reviewed the stash list and, although a little out-of-date, came up with the following that might suit such a GB...

Hs-123 (Airfix)
Wellesley (Matchbox)
Heyford (Matchbox)
Stranraer (Matchbox)
Batplane (Polar Lights)
X-32, F-35, YF-23 (Italeri)
Space 1999 Hawk (Airfix)

PS

Forget the current love of my life...

Douglas X-3 Stiletto (Lindberg) just got one of these incomplete (missing gear and pilot so nothing too vital) and am already planning on a couple more for some simple whiffing...
Please critique my posts honestly i.e. say what you think so I can learn and improve...

I love the idea of a Hawk but to be fair they are hard to come by these days. Every now and then I look to see if I can find a hawk or Eagle and there is rarely anything within a reasonable price range.

I like some of the biplane ideas as it would get people like me out of my fast jet comfort zone. My thoughts include - (and their not all in my stash!)
Any of the Revell WWI series reissues such as the DH 2, SE5A or D.VII etc
Matchbox Gladiator, Fury, Walrus or Stranraer
Airfix Tiger Moth, Demon or Bulldog

Non biplane ideas -
Airfix Islander
Airfix Anson

If I go down the jet route, the Airfix Buccaneer, Lightning F.1/F3 (or Hasegawa/NOVO/Revell/FROG-spawn F.6?), Canberra B(I)8/PR.9, Hawk (HS/BAe type!)

I was trying to think on armour kits but I'm struggling on something that ticks all the right boxes.
EDIT - flash of inspiration - What of the Italeri range of 1/72 Huey kits, whilst not necessarily a single kit GB, their range of Hueys are obviously all related and offer a wide range of schemes, operators and eras.
