Another Group build suggestion
All you guys are making suggestions for group builds and I would like to get into the act. Two of the GB's I was thinking about have recently been taken (Luft46 and Perl Harbor. Well my idea was not just Perl Harbor but anything from the PTO) As of right now I don't have one specific idea but I do have some suggestions I'd like to propose. I think I have something for everyone. Keep in mind most of these are rather main stream suggestions so if you don't have one of something you should be able to get something rather easily.
I never did a Single kit GB until I came here and I admit I like it a lot but my ideas are more toward a single subject or a theme.
For those that like the single kit on in this case single subject how about
Spitfire/ Seafire GB
P-40 GB
(I know these have been done before but not in the time I've been here and these are usually fan favorites and I've built neither)
Century Series GB (Anything of the F-1xx series of aircraft)
Anti-Shipping GB (I think the name says it all)
Close Air Support GB (A ground pounders Best Friend)
Night Fighter GB (Anything with antennas or designed for night fighting)
The Rising Sun GB (Anything with a Meatball painted on the side)
What I'll do is run the poll for a while and after that time kick out the lowest picked and repoll to see if we can narrow down the choices from there. Pick all the ones that peek your interest

Re: Another Group build suggestion
I pick Close Air Support and the P-40. By single kit build do you mean everyone builds a P-40 or everyone builds the Airfix P-40?
Curious as we have both.

Re: Another Group build suggestion
I would leave it up to the masses. My original thought was the P-40 of your choice

Re: Another Group build suggestion
I voted for the rising sun GB, I have a wonderful KI-84 Hayate that is just begging to be made, it would be perfect for that.
Spitfires and P-40s are for me covered in my two upcoming builds, but a P-40 one is still attractive since its a favorite of mine.

Re: Another Group build suggestion
Well I'm always up for a Spitfire build, I have several options to choose from.
I also voted for a P40 build, as I have some nice decals for P40M/Ns in 1/72. Probably the Academy kit. Although I do have the Hasegawa eggplane too....

Re: Another Group build suggestion
Spitfire GBs should be banned. There are always enough people building the dam things to constitute a GB anyway.

Re: Another Group build suggestion
due to my stash being depleted of suitable stuff theres not much i can vote on..........in the end i voted only for the P40.........i agree with James about Spit GB's.......such an iconic aircraft means its so popular you see too many of them being built................unless of course you put a twist on it by only allowing non RAF/Commonwealth schemes...ive got the Bader 1/48 thats crying out to be built but im not in too much hurry, hence i didnt vote for the Spit in this poll

Where "everyone" means "everyone who builds aircraft", right?Dirkpitt289 wrote:I think I have something for everyone.
Nevertheless ....
Obviously I have nothing suitable already in the stash (I don't think Harriers really fall neatly into any of those categories) but I voted for "Century Series" as I've always had a bit of a weakness for those jets (and schemes) so I wouldn't object to picking up one or two ....
Re: Another Group build suggestion
Hi Bruce. Mr Dyzio has mentioned an AFV GB. You two should put your heads together and work something out. I would join in.

Re: Another Group build suggestion
You're absolutely right Bruce. My bad. I have several armor kits in the stash I could have suggested. Then again maybe its better that I didn't because they aren't my specialty. Maybe you should set something up. I could be game to join in.BWP wrote:Where "everyone" means "everyone who builds aircraft", right?Dirkpitt289 wrote:I think I have something for everyone.

Re: Another Group build suggestion
Maybe a P40 build then? On condition that James has to build something...
The dates also need to be discussed. There's nothing scheduled in August. The downside is that's a big holiday/vacation month in the UK. Any earlier, and we would have three GBs running concurrently, which I think might be "A Touch Too Much"...
I'd be okay with August, and I don't think I'll be doing anything in the "Bearcat..." GB.
cheers
Andrew

Re: Another Group build suggestion
I was thinking August also but I think the people that agree to the build be aware of the time and know a head of time if they will have the time or not. In other words don't agree to do the build if you'll be traveling abroad that month. Common sense stuff ya know.
Seeing how August was/ is the target I set the poll for 14 days. This will give people with lives outside this forum and any newbe's a chance to vote also.
1- Other than my Messer-Spit I've never done one and the kit I'm building is fantastic so i wouldn't mind doing another. I have another "Reverse Lend Lease" in mind for that.
2- Strictly to make all you Brits happy. Being around here for as long as I have I've noticed that a lot of you guys seem to have a thing for this aircraft (Old Tonto) . So I figured what the heck

I won't argue with you on that point but I added it for two reasons.JamesPerrin wrote:Spitfire GBs should be banned. There are always enough people building the dam things to constitute a GB anyway.

Re: Another Group build suggestion
My rebuke was only intended to be the mildest of digs. Not just AFVs; those people who only build ships (or cars, or ...) might feel equally excluded.
Of course I'm not excluded at all. Between this and the Luft '46 GB I'll end up making several non-Harrier aircraft before the year is out. Hey, I like building tanks but you need to do something a little different every now and again so you don't fall into a rut.
August? Whew, I thought you were talking about in the next couple of weeks. Hey, that gives me time to track down some extra documentation for the kit I'm planning to get ... assuming that you go with the "Century-series" idea, of course. If you go with one of the others that might make things more complicated for me.
[Honestly, it's not hard. I do a search on eBay for "(Airfix, Matchbox)", sort by best price and pick the first one that comes up that fits the selected GB category. That way I'm as surprised as anyone by whatever I end up trying to build. I much prefer a pseudo-random selection method than trying to decide what to buy in advance.]
