Matchbox GB with a twist
Looking at Motley's unpainted BT-K gave me an idea. Who's up for a Matchbox GB, no paint allowed other than the "mini paint plan". We could allow paint for single colour re=pops, in which case you would be expected to paint the parts in the colours Matchbox intended before assembly begins. No filler allowed but you are allowed to clean up and even polish your seams, builds are to be as neat and clean as you are able. Original decals mandatory. Could be fun for a quick two week blast.

Yikes! If you knew how awful my childhood builds were, you wouldn't ask me to do it again
Sorry, I'll have to pass.

Re: Matchbox GB with a twist
I think it'd be fun and nostalgic...the only original MBs in my stash are all larger models so I'd probably start with one of the single colour repop kits...my only change to the rules above would be to make filler optional as I'm flipflopping between painting all the sprues in the original bases colours before assembling or paining the larger parts in the original colours after assembly...
While this idea may not be everybody'e cup of tea, I think it is another good way of completing models that strikes a chord with many other modellers (current or lapsed) from the MB era...just like someone else likes to finish his MBs in a chrome-like silver overall finish...

Excellent !! I knew we could count on you, Bruce !!
It's hard to deny the P-6E and Graf Spee look the part right out of the box !!!
Most of my Matchbox kits have a ultimate purpose involving paint & all that, but I will look around -- perhaps some of my 1:76 armor would be suitable .... It's not nostalgic to me, at least with Matchbox, because I was long grown when they came out -- but OOB with nothing but detail paint takes me back to many an Aurora kit, when the DR1 came in red, the Zero in yellow, the P-26 in blue & yellow, etc and the decal locations were molded into the plastic ...

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Yep, there's armour, ships and cars too so it doesn't have to be a wingy thing. Though Bruce's Alpha Jet looks brill.

Re: Matchbox GB with a twist
Quick question, were all matchbox kits brought out in multi coloured sprues or was it certain kits? Cause if i could get my hands on a kit off ebay id be up for it no problems

Re: Matchbox GB with a twist
All Matchbox kits, inc. those currently made in and sold from Hong Kong, (although the colours of such kits are somewhat more lurid than the originals).
Except when Revell bought the company, so I'd avoid the so-called 'Belgian' boxes, (ie Black with orange and yellow trim).
If you find one and want to ask, please do so.
Regards,
Bruce

Re: Matchbox GB with a twist
Don't be sorry...I was trying to keep things easier and failed miserably.
If you look on the sides of the last two, you'll see a 3 and a 2 respectively, indicating 3 and 2 colours of plastic.
So all of the above have multi-coloured sprue.
All is clear here:
