Bump, don't forget to vote if you have previously expressed an interest in this GB and haven't already done so.
This is a wonderful aeroplane which can be finished in many different colour schemes, they don't cost the earth if you do not have one stashed and are a straightforward build.

C-47/DC-3
1/48 scale
Monogram, Revell,Trumpeter
1/72 scale
Airfix, Esci, Italeri, Revell.
1/144 scale
Minicraft, Roden

Lisunov Li-2
1/72 scale
A Model
1/144 scale
HAD Models

Plus there is a shed load of aftermarket parts and decals.

For a Dak virgin like myself, what's the best option to go for?

Assuming 1/72 scale here, no idea about the others..
If you want a military Dak, nothing beats the new Airfix. For a civilian, I'd recommend the Esci (also reboxed by Revell and Italeri (not kidding)), especially the civilian boxings, since those include passenger seats (sort of..). The Italeri will make a perfectly good Dak if you close the rear door and thus block any view of the interior, and is cheap and everywhere.

If anyone is interested in a comparison, I have recent build reports of each, which should give you some idea about the main kits:

Esci: http://www.crazytinker.nl/kitlog/other/ ... abena.html;
Italeri: http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=8461;
Airfix: http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=10194;

Hi David - sorry, although I said I'd be in, I haven't voted as after this year I don't want to commit to any more GBs as I don't know how busy I'll be.

I'll have to see at the time - so put me down as a possible - probably with a AC-47.

Cheers

I voted to follow the crowd. Kit and decals sorted out already.

Al the best.

Just bumping this forward for next year, don't forget to vote if you have not previously expressed an interest in this GB or haven't already done so.
This is a wonderful aeroplane which can be finished in many different colour schemes, there are plenty of suitable kits and they don't cost the earth if you do not have one stashed and are a straightforward build.

Bump, we are now just weeks away from the three month window to confirm for February so can everyone leave a post to confirm their interest please, remember we need eight names for the minimum head count.

David,

With the Spitfire build in March / Apr and the Conversion build in Apr / May, together with some other projects on the go, I cannot commit to the time slot you have indicated (first quarter of next year), so regretfully I will have to pass on this.

regards,

Martin

Unfortunately this is how the poll ended and with such extended lead times these things do happen.
