I think there's a rule of thumb that if it's small enough to put on another ship, then it's a boatjssel wrote:I have a couple of ships. Or are they boats? I can never get it straight.

And submarines are usually referred to as "boats" as well...Jagewa wrote:Sorry, have to post this.....AndrewR wrote:I think there's a rule of thumb that if it's small enough to put on another ship, then it's a boatjssel wrote:I have a couple of ships. Or are they boats? I can never get it straight.

From a submariner's son (me!), submarines are always boats and never subs.

Well technically, das Boot, if there's one and die Boote if more than one...bluesteel wrote:Unless you are German, and then they are BootsPaulBradley wrote:From a submariner's son (me!), submarines are always boats and never subs.
So trying to steer the ship (or boat) back on course, there seems to be quite a lot of interest in Sci-Fi, AFV and ship genres. That's quite broad, any more specific areas of interests?
For example, a submarine GB? Then we know it's a boat

For AFVs, there are numerous ways of narrowing the focus: nationality; era; theatre of war; type of vehicle (tank, half-track, etc.).AndrewR wrote:So trying to steer the ship (or boat) back on course, there seems to be quite a lot of interest in Sci-Fi, AFV and ship genres. For Sci-Fi, I'd recommend specific movie/TV show, but there are other possible approaches: type of vehicle (fighter, ground, giant robot, etc.). You have to be careful, though, because in some categories the options would be quite limited.

I have kits in my stash from the first five categories, and would be interested in having a go at subjects other than my normal fare (aircraft and armour). Scifi, figures, ships and cars would get me out of my comfort zone for sure.

Gone for a figure build as it's not something we've done before. The excuse has been that not many would get involved, but if prefaced on a try something new and learn from others it has a lot of potential. 54mm figures would be my preference but I'd happily do a Jonny Pilot build!

My vote for ships. Since the Airfx MTB I built in the seventies of the last century (yes that long ago) I never did a ship again. In my stash is the Airfix MTB again and the Airfix Rescue Launch. I have good memories of the MTB, I like that kit.
