Airfix Royal Aircraft Factory BE2c **NEW TOOL**

Post by iggie »

Fresh off the press (or out of the tooling  ), this arrived today:
Airfix Royal Aircraft Factory BE2c
Three grey sprues in the now normal Airfix soft-ish and very slightly textured grey plastic, but with great detail and finer sprue gates than some other new tools of late
The instructions are in the now normal pattern with colour highlights of certain parts, and good positive location pointers. There is also a rigging diagram 8-)
Decals are nicely printed but appear a little thicker than other recent offerings; new supplier perhaps...

Nice... those new style pilot figures look the business and that MG is a far cry from the amorphous blobs of old, too.
Is this your sanderling?.

The engineering of the cabanes looks good for the upper wing attachment too. The engine is impressive too.

So rigging asides - how hard do you think this kit would be for a beginner to biplanes?

I would say it would make a very good introduction to biplanes as (rigging aside) there are even jigs included for setting the inter-plane struts at the correct angle

Go on, you know you want to....... :-D

Sprues look adaptable to later versions and the BE.12.
Be great if they did a BE.2a variant - I don't thin anyone has that out, even in the cottage-shops.

Now that looks very nice and it is really great to see a new tool WW I bipe from Airfix. Although I very rarely use them, the aircrew look excellent. And there are jigs to set the strut angles, which is not the first time as I remember Airfix supplied jigs with the Sopwith Pup when it came out in the 70's and very useful they were too. Personally, I find that setting the top wing and getting the angles right, particularly on a two-bay aircraft such as this, is often the most difficult part of a biplane build. Thanks for posting.
