Wingnut Wings 1/32 Albatros D Va (OAW)

Post by Arcwelder »

It's a WNW and it's wonderful. Let's 'ave a peek.

Nice, sturdy top-opening box (also solidly packaged for its long haul from Wellington)

Image

A4 glossy print instruction manual filled with a mind-boggling amount of detailed information, archive photos, engine walkarounds, rigging diagram and full colour profiles of the five paint schemes.

Image

Each sprue is seprately bagged and the styrene looks to be of impeccable quality

Image

Image

Four props provided, of which you can choose between three, depending on scheme.

Image

Detail is outstanding, of course

Moulded Spandau is excellent, but they also provide a plain barrel variant with PE cooling jacket for the bolder.

Decals are copious and stunning. Heavily researched from period photos.

Full sets of upper and lower lozenges and rib tapes

That PE fret with seatbelts and MG cooling jackets.

Frankly, it's stunning. I've heard plenty about WNW kits and seen some incredible builds but it's really something you have to hold in your filthy paws to truly appreciate. They're not cheap, but worth every cent.

Now the hard part: choosing which of the schemes to build!

That looks an excellent kit indeed!

One day I'll succumb to the siren calls from NZ and invest in one (or several  )
Best wishes

Do it! And with Sterling as strong as it is, the one I just bought works out at £49 with free shipping.

And with the Canadian dollar in the tank, that US$69 becomes CAN$96.

So maybe not...

I hear ya. The Euro is hanging out close to parity with the USD but ordering anything from the UK quickly becomes an expensive hobby.

Talking of expensive hobbies, I've just been hit with a sodding £18 bill to release my parcel from Royal Mail, to cover import duties and VAT......oh and an £8 admin charge to add to the insult....

Oh well, it arrives Monday so something to look forward to I suppose!
Best wishes

That's always the rear kicker, isn't it. VAT (or whatever it's called locally) is bad enough, but annoying though they are, taxes are neccessary (we could argue long and fiercely abouts methods and amounts, but at least in principle), but the 13 Euro charge for filling in two fields on a form is galling, especially on relatively low value shipments.

Having to pay 13 Euro handling and 5 Euro tax always feels like a rip-off to me. I'll happily pay the cost for an extra parcel just to keep each parcel under the taxation limit, just to avoid the handling charge. Doesn't really reduce the total cost that much, but at least they now have to work for it, and the money pays the wages of people actually working, instead of overpriced quasi civil servants, and that makes me feel a whole lot better.

I was expecting a VAT charge, but there is an option on the WNW form to indicate that it's a "Gift" and that appeared to work..

Yeah.....I ticked that and it didn't!
Still cheaper than buying here so all good, just not add good as I was hoping! I have a sister out there so I might investigate postage for her to send another
