Quonset hut barracks (Italeri)

Post by bassman »

Added to my stash is the Quonset hut Barracks in 1/72.

What you get is two barracks on two identical sprues. These two sprues allow you to make one barrack with windows and one without windows. The window glazing is preformed self adhesive plastic. Also on the sprues are two flag poles.
The parts are very well moulded in grey plastic.

A simple set with lots of opportunities for diorama building.

Great idea - would go well with the Airfix COntrol Tower. How much did you pay for yours?

Overhere the kit is Euro 17,95.
Good idea: I didn't think about the control tower but that combination makes a nice dioroma.

Ah ! That's a Quonset hut. A bit like our Nissen Huts. I always thought they were the wooden ones with the canvas tops.

Wasn't there a MASH set available once ?
So many models, so little time.

Our Orderly Room and Supply Room were in one of those back in the 70's,on a small Kaserne in Germany.

And to think I didn't take dozens of photos just in case someone released a model of them .... shame on me ...

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

I've recently built them and I can honestly say that they were a pleasure to build. Perfect fit and quick to assemble. The only time consuming part comes if you want to cut out extra windows but even that's not too much of a chore. I painted mine in Tamiya XF-61 Dark Green acrylic with a wide brush with XF-51 Flat Earth for window and door frames. Dragging the brush a little gave a nice worn appearance that looks great on my airfield model. It was a real "weekend" kit and one I'd recommend to anyone.
