Airfix 1/72 Jet Provost T.3
Here is the Airfix 1/72 Jet Provost T.3 hot from the hands of the delivery guy!
Three sprues in Airfix's standard soft grey-blue plastic. Panel lines are now as good as anyone else's and the level of details is great. Four piece seats and some nice cockpit details should keep most people away from seeking aftermarket. The main legs are mould to the door, but as the legs on the real aircraft sit in a recess in the doors and these are make for good scale effect. A separate exhaust and rear fuselage tip avoid cleaning up seam lines in this tricky area.
The third only carries the upper wings which have been moulded at the correct dihedral relative the the mould halves. I can only think this is to make sure the holes for the undercarriage legs are truely vertical. This is nice attention to detail, but along with some very long ejector pin towers on the sprues are probably the only think stopping this kit fitting in a series 1 box. I suspect the this being series 2 has more to do with the projected sales than the size of the kit.
Pilots are supplied but have been pantographed (or maybe added from a generic mould piece) from an old source, heavy seem lines and all.
The canopy in three parts with an alternative for the sliding hood in the open position.
Two nice distinct sets of markings are supplied, an early painted silver with dayglo strips and the later smart red, white grey.
Decals look impressive. The instrument panel is full of detail. Plenty of stencils to ignore if you are not that way inclined. The dayglo marking are very bright and you might want to tone them down if you intend to weather your model. They are noticeably thicker than the other decals but since the real markings were stuck on from rolls of tape are entirely appropriate.
Construction looks very straight forward with no tricky bits and I think this would make a cracking starter kit for youngster more so than some of the more recent series 1 kits. Well done Airfix!

That looks a really nice kit; ordered mine this evening from Airfix plus a couple of others to make up the post free value
Best wishes

Re: Airfix 1/72 Jet Provost T.3
Does that mean that you have to build it with the gear down? I hate it when kit-makers don't provide you with basic choices like that. At least Airfix still provides crew figures, however ancient the moulds may be.The main legs are mould[ed] to the door, but as the legs on the real aircraft sit in a recess in the doors and these are make for good scale effect.

I'm with Tarkas. Pity there's no in-flight option. I build all mine 'in flight'. At least Airfix give is pilots. I just wish they still gave us stands too.

Mmmmm, very nice!
My pet peeve is multi-part seats - but they are easily replaced with resin or white metal aftermarket.

Mine has arrived and it looks every bit as good as James' review; the decals especially so! The fluorescent orange stripes are bright to say the least
Best wishes

Re: Airfix 1/72 Jet Provost T.3
I'm doing a build of the old Airfix kit and a new one to go with it. I'll probably use the old scheme and some suitable decals.
I've made a few mods. New instrument panel and coaming. Filled in the wheel doors and blanked off the rocket pylon locations.

So many models, so little time.
