1/72 RV Aircraft MiG-21 PFM issued in 2014
Since I really like to build Migs, I thought, why not giving a review of a modern tooling of this plane?
I didn´t hear of this brand, before I noticed this kit:
It has a lot of gimmicks in the box:
Resin parts:
Cockpit "tub", seat, joystick, instr. panel, front wheel well, one (!) cooling vent for the bl**dy engine
PE:
cockpit parts in colour (emerald green)
little parts, like ejection handles, front wheel well doors,"odd rods", etc
-Big decal sheet, colour callouts in colour, most versions in NMF, though
-Brass pitot tube
-3 canopy parts: windscreen, 1 main canopy w/ rear view mirror, 1 w/o, canopy masks
Looks impressive in the box - but has anyone here build it already, and give some comments about it?
I believe it´s NOT short-run, the moulding is too crisp for that!
So here are the piccies of the content:
just 4 pages of instructions! but the "rest" looks nice:
Now some close ups of details, can this be achieved by short-run?
2 sets of wings:
What makes it look like short-run is the fact that wings and elevators are butt joins!
I don´t like that, and would strengthen the connection by plastic rods.
Any comments about this kit very welcome

...I still don´t have the nerve to work with PE, and other gimmicks, I want to save me building this kit for later, that´s why I´m asking about the main problems with building this kit here, on this forum.
(By searching the net, I already discovered that it´ll not fall together....)

From the fact that I didn´t get any replies about this kit, I´m guessing that most 72 scale builders interested, are waiting for Eduard´s impending 21 MF? and pass this one by!
Now that Eduard shows you Auto CAD images of the kit, it can´t be so long anymore....
Dare I say: less than a year til we can grab hold of the sprues?
(Whaddaya think?)

I had read your review, sorry for not replying but I too have never built an RV model. Great looking plastic though and a nice decal sheet with plenty of choices. I had heard quite some time ago that Eduard were to do a 72 scale 21. I had given up hope though as it's been so long. I am still tempted by the RV one though.

Cheers for the review, it's not my subject but the surface detail looks nice and would look good if you went for a NMF.
Are these kits expensively?

Ooops, just had a look at eebee UK, prices gone up since I bought mine: you pay more than 20 quid for one (p&p inc.).
...and not all editions of this kit got the same gimmicks, some come with lots of PE, others not.
I´m not a fan of PE, haven´t built any PE into my kits yet! It just gets too fiddly often, then.

This actually looks to be a very good kit of this famous MiG with plenty of options on the decal sheet and nice additional details such as resin and PE (I've used PE many times over the years, resin hardly ever). Over £20.00 for a 1/72nd MiG-21 is a little high for me even though I do like the aircraft. I don't think that Eduard will necessarily better this kit by a whole lot.

It looks nice on the sprues, but if it builds up nicely?
I sellotaped the fuselage, the fit looks good.
I might blutac wings and elev., just to see how it looks.
Right now this hardworking German can't try it, cause he's at work (working hard, of course).

Re: 1/72 RV Aircraft MiG-21 PFM issued in 2014
I blutac´ed the wings, elev. and canopy to the fuselage, this is how it looks:
this one´s not so suited to the beginner, I see myself as an intermediate beginner, so I´ll leave this one in the stash pile for a while...elevators are a 2-part assembly, see the pics
fit is good (but not very), but you´ll need some filler on fuselage, wing- and elev.roots!
canopy fit looks good!
...and no locator pins and locks on fuselage, neither on wings, elevators...not even shaded areas where pylons supposed to go!
You should have your references ready to glue things where they s´posed to hang!
This kit looks promising, but it´ll give you some work to do!

Thanks for that Crash, I agree it will be a challenge (Which is why I have not started it ).
I have updated my review so you should be able to see the pics now. Stupid Photobucket.

Re: 1/72 RV Aircraft MiG-21 PFM issued in 2014
Looks like it might need a bit of filler here and there but we're modellers, right? There is some nice looking surface detail on there though - the last MiG-21 I built in this scale was the one of the old Matchbox versions that came with East German and Finnish markings ( possibly a -bis, I can't remember) and this kit is light years ahead! Thanks for taking the time to blu-tak it together to give us a better look, CP.

You´re welcome! Was no big deal to blutac it, and it was worth it! That´s an easy way to find out, if a kit only looks great in the box, or.....
