Airfix 1:72 RAF Benevolent Fund Hawk T.Mk.1

Post by Mikeew »

Received this today from Airfix.com
It is a reissue of their previous new tooled Hawk in 1:72 scale so you get the same sprues as before - minus a pilot figure. I guess this is to reflect that as an RAF Solo display machine it only requires one pilot.
The real Piece de resistance is the Cartograf decal Sheet. It is impeccably printed and looks absolutely superb. A neat touch with the decals is the optional markings for the belly to allow it to be built with gear up or down.
I think I will build this with gear up to show off the markings, I just need to source a decent enough stand.

As usual for recent Airfix offerings, the box art is sublime:

Also worthy of note for those who bemoan those end opening boxes; within is a tray type box:

These will be filed away

The acrylics are good for any internal works and the brushes are a huge improvement on those previously given away.
Am I right in thinking that that isn't the new New-Tool?

It is a retool Bruce AFAIK.
Previously the wing fences were separately moulded and the canopy was a two piece affair with some minor shape issue on the windscreen section.

Looks like a decent kit and I love the scheme. I can't help but think that those large decals could be a challenge to get to lay down properly. If this ever makes it to my LHS I'll be more then happy to get one. I'm guessing it could be a while though. Talking to the HS owner yesterday and he still hasn't been able to get the new Airfix Zero, P-40 or the New Red Tail Mustang. :???:

Mounting it on an acrylic rod up the tail pipe at a climbing angle would show off that nifty decal ...

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

That decal sheet is fairly decorative isn't it? I wouldn't trust myself with it though!

Very odd. It has recessed panel lines on the fuselage and wings, recessed MDC and the Red Arrows smoke pod.

Thing is the sprue layout is not as it is on kit number A02005 which came out back in 2009.
A02005

It almost looks like they have done a more simplified version of the new moulding.

It is a great looking scheme and even better that Airfix have got someone like Cartograph to do the decals as such a scheme deserves a top of the range decal sheet

This is a kit I've been thinking off quite a long time. Love this scheme!
However the large decals scare me off a bit. Afraid of messing them up. But I am gonna get this kit, some day.
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

I've built the T.2 (100 Series) and have the old(ish) issue of this T.1 kit with the two-peice canopy (which does also include the red arrows smoke cannister) in my stash, they are great kits, some minor issues but I really enjoyed making the T.2, I shall have to do the other soon, but I shall definalty get this as well, just for the good cause.

Looks good, I have just finished the red arrows hawk T1 and I must agree with Chris it looks very similar.
