MPM Gloster Meteor F.8 Prone 1/72nd

Post by bluesteel »

Sprue shots to begin with. I'll add more text later.

Box art looks good:

Inside the basic MPM Meteor F8 sprues x 2:

A seperate sprue for the Prone parts:

The transparencies + Prone, and two (bottom rectangle) of what appear to be transparent original nose parts. Not mentioned in the instructions at all. Maybe a template for the cut?

Decal look nice:

Instructions showing where the cuts are made:

Some shots of the real thing I took at the RAF Cosford museum a few years ago, will be quite useful as a reference:

Nice. Certainly a very odd-looking puppy, isn't it?

Thanks for sharing, Julian.

Must have been quite scary when coming in to land!

@Julian the clear nose parts are for MPM's FR9 release of the meteor.

Thanks James, that makes sense, I was wondering what they were for...

Interesting, I had to go look up the aircraft itself, so I am no judge of well-known-ness -- I'm sure I would have gotten to it sooner or later when I got into my "Gloster Aircraft Since ..." book.

What an odd choice. Rhetorically, just how many kits does MPM think they will sell and just what do we as modellers think might be the expected demand ?

I think it's oddness is it's main selling point. Special Hobby also have the Prone Meteor on their future releases listing, along with the Trent Meteor.

I'll look out for the Trent Meteor, but will give this a miss. I suppose it's a cheap exercise. It's just the standard kit with some extras. Looks interesting though.
So many models, so little time.

Having often seen the real thing at Cosford I've long wanted to build one. Always put off the conversion though, and wil happily buy one. Not much reason to repeat buy though, unless you're a whiffer. The spare recce nose is nice, but already having used the old but gold Aeroclub version (on a Matchbox nightfighter kit, as intended) I probably wouldn't get around to using it. For anyone who wants to follow that route though it makes the kit more attractive, assuming it would fit well enough.

Looks so wrong and yet so appealing! Never done much when it comes to cutting plastic as required with this kit so that puts me off a little.

Now of course, someone could go the whole hog and do a Whif of the thing in service markings with just the prone cockpit in place......

It's very Dan Dare, they always flew spaceships prone. It would certainly look better without the regular cockpit on there. :)

Cheers
