Airfix Vampire T11 1/72 scale
Airfix Vampire T11 1/72 scale
x55 parts
Just received this and must say it looks amazing, the parts and detail are well defined. Some have said that the panel lines are too deep on the new tool Airfix line and maybe they are deeper than usual but I quite like that as it makes details stand out without needing to add washes.
I chose the gift set as it comes with RNZAF markings actually the only markings. An overall BMF aircraft.
Haven't dry fitted anything yet but I don't think there will be many issues.
Here are some pics.

Airfix has really turned it around the last few years.

Saxon, they were not bare metal finish but were painted overall in 'High Speed Silver' a smooth, non-reflective aluminium paint.

I thought it might be the case, however I'm not that fussy, so it will end up being sprayed Tamiya Bare Metal.lancfan wrote:Saxon, they were not bare metal finish but were painted overall in 'High Speed Silver' a smooth, non-reflective aluminium paint.

Most of the Vampire airframe was wooden - so not much chance of "bare metal" anywhere anyway. The Vampire shares a lot of structural technology first developed in the Mosquito, DH88 and DH91 Albatross.

I swear if I ever get that pedantic about what is essentially the colour silver on a plastic model, I will give the hobby up for good.

I thought that as part of the fun of the hobby
Xtracolor actually do a metalic called "High Speed Silver" which matches the shade perfectly.
It's actually a fairly dull, low shine finish and quite unlike normal "silver" paint and nothing at all like bare metal.

Hey Saxon, why not wait for the single kit GB later this year?
Confused as always, and somewhere in hiding on the Scandinavian peninsula...

I might do the same. I bought two of them - one to do as an RAF T11 and the other to do as an Irish Air Corps T55.
Re: Airfix Vampire T11 1/72 scale
Irish Air Corps always looks good, is that in BMF err, High Speed Alu errr bloody silver too?

Yes indeedy. They came like that - and the Air Corps just stuck their stickers on.

That does look nice with the orange. But no, I am not going to buy another one...
