Avro Canada VZ-9 Avrocar 1/72 Fly Models

Post by bluesteel »

More of a hovercraft than aircraft.

Wiki entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avrocar

AZ Models Tiger Moth fuselage added to show scale - it's not very big...

Canopies are injected but a tad thick

Resin cockpit tubs, seats and detail but won't show under those thick canopies

Small decal sheet, looks better than the photo

Just two schemes on the back of the box, both silver. Could be fun to What-If though...

Appears to be a simple build but the fan looks poorly rendered, photos suggest that PE would have been a better way to capture it. The canopies could be very easily replaced with crash moulded examples. Thanks for posting.

The fan's not too bad, just didn't photo particularly well, but PE might have been better. You are definitely spot on regarding the canopies, should be a straight forward crash mould.

Interesting! I remember seeing some "in-flight" movie footage of this thing.

Thanks for posting.

Yes, there are quite a few. If you just search for 'Avrocar' on Youtube. There's even a colour film, but with annoying music.

One thing I noted on the film was that the version showed had no canopies at all, just a roll over bar over the cockpit area, which gives another alternative to the thick canopies.
