Hellooooooooooooooooooooo from Aberdeenshire

Post by Nikonchris »

Morning/afternoon/evening depending where you live.
My name is Chris, over 50, just, work as a Chief Photographer for a local evening paper and have been modelling since I can remember.
My interest is WW2 German armour in 1/35th, but mid 2015, I lost my mojo at the thought of painting any more wheels, tracks and adding ting tool brackets was driving me mad

So at Christmas I bought a couple of Airfix 1//72 aircraft to get me started again, with no tracks, few wheels and no tool brackets....hooray for now, as I have a large AFV stash.
These are the JU88A-4 and a BF110, started on the JU88 first.

So far so good and the mojo is alive and kicking(cue great song) :-D
So drop a line if you want as I will always get back to you.

Cheers,
Chris..

Ps.
1)Is their an aftermarket cockpit for the Airfix HE177A5 as the model is virtually empty that you know of
2)When I retire I am thinking of building the Tamiya Famo and trailer in 1/35th with a 1/32 German fighter on the trailer. In your honest opinions dose the slight difference in scale matter, or is it really obvious when mixing the scales(I am not and never will be a rivet counter)

Hi Chris and welcome. Nice intro. Think we have all go through that lost mojo thing from time to time. Enjoy your stay.

Hi Chris, and welcome !

I build 1/35 military but avoid tracked armor for much the reasons you cite - plus I find artillery and wheeled stuff more interesting.

It's my opinion that the slight difference in scale is not evident when you are mixing aircraft and vehicles - in most cases neither the aircraft guys nor the armor guys will notice. IMO, again, the difference at the 1/72 and 1/76 level is a bit more obvious. A few figures or other items, like a building, need to be chosen carefully. Anyway, I have seen several such combinations. It's a shame the two communities couldn't get together on a common scale (same with 1/76 & 1/72) - of course one could also drag the card modelers into this with their in-the-middle 1/33 scale :)

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Morning Chris,

Welcome to UAMF - I hope you enjoy your time with us.

Can't help with the first question and I agree with John on the second - I don't think it should matter too much.

Regards

Stuart

Fit like Chris?

Welcome aboard.
Re mixing 1/32 & 1/35, it usually doesn't matter with vehicles and aircraft, but it's best to keep figures all in one scale. Airfix figures, although nicely detailed, seem to be on the chunky side and don't play nice together with the likes of the skinny Mini Art, Dragon and Master Box 1/35 figures.
