I was working at Bruntingthorpe today inspecting a few of the 22000 cars on site and took the opportunity to get a few pictures of the aircraft there. The office I was in was in the old control tower which now overlooks the test track, keeping with it's history there are some nice prints of the heavy metal the U.S.A.F had stationed there on the walls. Just over from the tower is the Nimrod XV226 with the 40 years tail markings. In the far corner of the site Boeing 747s ,ex RAF Tristars and VC10s can be seen.

Cheers Greg, I'd not been for a few years so kind of planned a work refresher as an excuse to visit. They did fire something up over in the far corner as I could hear the jet whine. Couldn't get over that part of the field though as the race track was in use. One of the 747s is stripped out and used for staff Xmas parties and the odd wedding.

The site is home to Mannheim car auction who handle a lot of top end motors, Maserati,Porsche , Jag etc plus it is also a storage /pdi and refurbishment site for some of the big car hire firms, one of which I work for. When the cars finish their rental life they come back for refurb and then either go into dealer approved networks or sold through auction. As March is new registration time all the older vehicles come off fleet as the new ones go out hence the large amount sat there. Plus the manufactures can't shift them quick enough either. They did say this was the most they had ever had on site, as a rule they don't like to store vehicles on the grassed areas.Even at 600 acres they can run out of hardstanding.
Also the site has a race / test track, when I was there Bentley were setting up for a drivers day. A lot of TV companies use it to film on. Royal Enfield are building a new R+D center there and there is also a refurb center for heavy plant machinery.

Sounds like an interesting worksite. Thanks for the information.

The Stripped out Jumbo is the ex Olympic Airways bird, apparently they have swapped her for a complete L1011 tall go into the Cold War Jets collection for fast taxi runs with the VC-10.
