A Lancaster visits Middleton St George

Post by Chuck E »

Last Thursday I visited Teesside Airport, once RAF Middleton St George, to see the Canadian Warplane Heritage Lancaster. What a great day. You could walk right up and touch it! The display was short, but wonderful. This is really an impressive aeroplane. I hope you like the photos and will find them useful in your modelling.
Loads of photos of all the aircraft and other exhibits there. When VERA was setting off for a short run along the coast, she developed an oil leak and had to return to the airport trailing smoke.

She has now been fitted with a Rolls Royce Merlin and will test fly it tomorrow. ( Tuesday )

Rather strange that The Echo missed the nice link that she was being repaired in a hangar that served the same purpose for Canadian Lancs in WWII.

Here's a funny thing. On the right of the photo is a blonde girl with a couple of dogs. Marie is a good friend of mine, but I hadn't realised that she was there until I loaded this photo! I played at her belated birthday and housewarming a couple of days later. Marie is ex RAF and is a big WWII buff. Her 40th was a 40's event at Elvington Air Museum.
So many models, so little time.
