Everybody down safe, thankfully. Obviously this little technical hitch means the Lanc won't be participating in any memorial events this weekend, anyway.

I reckon it's out for the season.

Eric, Why? we don't know if there has been any fire damage to the wing structure and there has not been any statement as to the results of any inspection of the airframe.

Incidentally, not the first time the BBMF Lanc has come back in on three!

I think the lack of comment from official sources indicates to me that my prediction will turn out to be correct.

Lancaster update

Good evening here is a a brief post about the progress on the repairs after the problem with the number four engine. As you can appreciate I cannot give you all the details but it is not simply an engine change. There is fire damage to the nacelle panels, engine bearer and associated systems. All this will take time to assess, repair or replace. We hope to have her flying again this year but at this moment we can not say when.

At least the Lanc is just damaged and no-one was hurt.

Some of the nacelle panels may need replacing and if not available from stock this should just be a matter of sheet metal work using the originals as patterns, time consuming but not thankfully difficult. The engine bearer may also need replacement if the heat has changed the properties of the steel now this could take time if replacements have to be sourced from outside and obtaining serviceable/reconditioned replacements for any fire damaged period equipment could also take time for the same reason.

No news is good news when waiting for officialdom (don't forget that they are not obliged to say anything) and personally as long as it does fly again that will do for me- time will tell.

Absolutely. It's not the end of the world if we don't see it this year - as long as it takes to the skies at some point.
