FG-1D Corsair Restoration

Post by coptermech »

Here's a couple of shots of the Corsair being restored in Stratford, Ct. It is roughly 7 years since the project started. Up until that point, it sat on a pedestal in front of Sikorsky Airport since around 1970. Another year and it would have corroded to the point of falling off the pedestal. This was due to the fact that the airport is located in the middle of a salt marsh. The team has done an amazing job restoring it to this point. Unfortunately, it will only be a static display.

As a side note, the building in the background is the former Chance Vought factory, where thousands of Corsairs rolled off the assembly line during WW2, and is where our museum is located!!!

Simply AWESOME. I would love to work on something like that. (and I've worked on some pretty fine aircraft myself)

All the best.

The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.
