Davis Monthan Boneyard, March 2016
I visited the DM boneyard in Tucson, AZ, last week - here are some photos of new and interesting stuff there. Sorry about the quality of the photos - you spend the whole tour inside the bus, with all the internal reflections that entails, and the bus is moving at 20-30mph most of the time....
EC-135C 62-3585, formerly of 7th ACCS, 55th Wing, Offutt AFB. Looking Glass a/c.
C-23C 93-01322/N170Z, possibly for delivery to US Forest Service.
E-2C 164353, formerly of VAW-124, USS George HW Bush, newly arrived at AMARG and being treated with Spraylat.
C-130H 957 R Nor AF with 956 and 954 behind.
The end of the line for a pair of F-16s.
KC-135R 10304, formerly of 100th Air Refueling Wing, RAF Mildenhall – note the RAF Mildenhall badge on the top of the fin.
Hard to see in the background and barely glimpsed in the distance is an unidentified NATO E-3A Sentry – NATO is currently retiring a handful as a cost-cutting measure.
The latest arrivals at AMARG first sit on this ramp to have their remaining fuel drained and light oil run through the engines. A C-130, four F-16s and a single F/A-18 can be seen here.
They are then moved to another ramp area where other liquids and materials are removed and the process of covering the a/c begins.
An EA-6B being processed
C-27J 08-27012, formerly of Ohio ANG, now being processed to go to the US Coast Guard as 2703.
A whole row of C-23s, including C-23C 88-01869 (ex-US Army), C-23B+ 93-01325 (ex-US Army) and C-23C 94-0314 (ex-Kentucky ANG).
Masses of H-60s; closest is HH-60H 165122, formerly of HCSC-84.

Great shots; interesting but saddening in equal measure for the aircraft that are unlikely to fly again. A few diorama ideas there though.....
Thanks for posting!
Thanks for posting!
Best wishes

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Wow. Great pics. It must be a spectacular sight. Thanks for posting them.
How quickly can the mothballed things be resurrected, I wonder.

Cheers, guys.
They can un-mothball them pretty quickly. Everything is inhibited, so they just need to un-inhibit and take off the Spraylat.

Nice shots Paul. F16's to the boneyard already. Makes me feel old.

Interesting that the Mansfield Boys lost their C-27Js so quickly after getting them. Thanks for posting the pictures.
I'll be down in Tucson and Yuma at the end of April. Might even take the Boneyard tour.

Paul,
A friend wants to drag me along on an airplane spotting trip to Yuma. Tucson is a destination because that is where my Mom and brother live.

Cool. Yuma should be good - USMC F-35s are there now alongside the AV-8Bs and all the helos. Have fun!
